Bon Voyage!

Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many
of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome,
charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in
one little corner of the earth all one’s lifetime.

by Mark Twain

So this is my last blog before I start my travels. Come this Thursday, I will be out of here for 43 days straight. This is always my very most favorite time in life; throwing a few things in a pack and heading out into the world. I always feel like I am at my best when I am traveling. For some reason, that weird ambitious feeling that sticks in my gut and never allows me to feel successful no matter how far I get is completely gone. I can see now that that feeling is caused by me, and me alone, but for some reason it seems easier to access when I am out of the country.

My goal in my recent work on myself is to truly feel that way all the time, regardless of my place and external state. I know it’s possible because its not like anything from the outside is reaching in and making me do something. I am the only one who can do that. I am just really starting to recognize that truth.

There is something so fantastic about seeing brand new places and meeting brand new people. It’s so true what Mark Twain said about the need for a broader world view. It’s so easy for me to get caught on my hamster wheel, forgetting the bigger picture and the whole rest of the world. I always feel like I have been completely rehydrated from the well of life when I step off the plane from my weeks of travels and rejoin the day to day steps of my life.

I will check in as often as I find a Internet cafe, and I’ll send pictures as I take them.

My first stop is London, to shake hands with some of my beautiful British fans! Yay!

Ciao for now and bon voyage!

Have fun on your break, Allison. Keep your eyes, ears, and heart open on your travels and bring back many pictures and stories. Give that passport a workout!

I’m inspired to take a trip of my own now. Who knows where…I just need to stretch my legs.

I echo Tabby’s sentiments about AllisonMackOnline.com. Although I’m wondering what this Traveling Gnome game will entail and if it will involve Flash… Hmmm.

Heh! No Flash, although if you really needed something to keep you busy, I’m sure we can think of SOMETHING to do in flash with it, like the reports.

Basically travelling gnome game is when you send a gnome around the world and snap pictures. Several months ago we decided to send an AMO shirt around the world and have everyone sign it and take pictures wearing it.

By the time it gets back to me, its gonna be really stinky! At that point, we’ll send it on to Allison :-p (or something like that)

I too want to see more of the world but uptil now I never had the courage to travel because I’ve no friends who can travel with me. But being alone shouldn’t prevent me from doing things.
So…next year I’m going on a guided tour to West-Canada. My first big adventure. :-) The 15-days tour ends in Vancouver and I’ll be staying a few days longer on my own. That is a real big challenge for me.

Thanks for sharing your enthusiasm and insight about traveling. You’ve helped me take the big step.

I’ll be looking forward to your pictures and comments.

Have a good time, relax and enjoy yourself.

Have a eye-opening and rejuvenating trip Allison.

I truly agree with what Mark Twain said about how traveling opens up your eyes to the world. I teach in the inner city and it amazes me how many of my students have not seen anything other than their neighborhood. It makes me realize that even though I haven’t traveled that much, I am aware of the world a whole lot more than they are. One of the few rewarding things with teaching is being able to show and tell about places around the world most students will never have a chance to visit. That’s why I like to travel on my breaks from school. It opens up my mind, but also I get to take pictures from my trip and share them with my students. So take some cool pictures, ’cause I might share them with my students.

    Enjoy your travels!

I have a serious travel bug that has taken me throughout and across the United States and Canada several times but never outside North America. I’ve been from the Arctic Circle to the Gulf Coast and from Vancouver to Halifax and I can tell you there is a lot of stuff in between to explore.

My most memorable trip was a cross continent, shoe string budget non-stop scramble with my best friend from Vancouver to Chicago to meet his Internet “girlfriend.” We rejoiced in the glory that is Taco Bell and the Wendy’s 99 cent menu. We also rejoiced in the frequency of the Interstate rest stop. We did not rejoice in the apparent laxity of Wisconsin state gun laws when said girlfriend turned out to be married. So it went.

One doesn’t have jet off to exotic locales or far away places to see new and exciting things, however. My wise and dear friend Carrie likes to remind me that we need to let ourselves get lost once in a while and just explore our own corners of the world. She must really love me because she is always telling me to get lost.

Sounds like an exciting month and a half– it’ll be exciting to see the itinerary as it shapes up. Good luck on your voyages.

It’s interesting to read about your feelings about going abroad, both in this post and in your thoughts about your experiences in China. One of the things that travel offers is an opportunity to see yourself completely out of context. A lot of who a person is is developed as a response to the people and culture surrounding them. When you remove yourself from the culture that gives your actions justification, it puts your entire identity into a new perspective. A lot of anxieties, especially those based on comparison, can sort of melt away. For some people it’s liberating and relaxing, for other people it’s terrifying to lose that sense of security and belonging. From the sound of things, you’re the former, someone who consciously seeks opportunities to immerse herself in completely different environments in order to see what she can learn about herself. That’s pretty courageous.

Anyway, please post lots of pictures, especially if you find yourself in China again.

    Be safe.

When I travel I friends wanted to travel I like to avoid the tourist spots and go to the places where the real people live. I agree with you on the being happy all the time, it’s such hard work, but it shouldn’t be, but I think we complicate life to much. I used to think, “I’ll be happy when…”, I know it doesn’t work that way.

‘Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts.”

Mark Twain hit the nail on the head with that quote. Having been fortunate enough to have had the opportunity to live in a number of locations around the world during my formative years, it has affected the way in which I view my suroundings. It’s made me realise that while there are many points of view and many ways of life, that incredible diversity is what it means to be human. Not to mention the exposure to new ideas, thoughts, experiences and landscapes is incredibly invigorating. There’s nothing quite like it!

Have an amazing and safe trip! I’m jealous now, might have to start planning my next sojourner.

I am so glad to see that you are exploring the inner you through travel. I recently (Sept/06-Oct/06) traveled to Europe for a month to both visit my brother (whom moved to the UK) and to explore realms previously unknown to me. I traveled alone, and was very glad I did travel by myself. I was able to completely relax, and to realize that my bloated view about the world was in fact an illusion. I was disillusioned, humbled, awed and filled with an overwhelming sense of wonder as I trekked across Europe. I hope everyone who wants to travel MAKES the effort to go, as it is well worth it. Even though I am a guy, and was not worried about solo travel, it does not mean that women cannot travel unless they are with someone. Just use your head, and if it doesn’t seem like a good place to go, then don’t!. I met some very excellent people on my trip, and hope I will be able to visit some of them in the future. It really is a small world, and the vacation I took was my greatest gift ever… to myself! Have fun Allison, and live life to the fullest as you are worth it!

I hope you have a great time!! Traveling is one of my favorite things to do. It really opens your eyes, mind, and heart to new things, thoughts, ideas, and more. There are so many amazing things and people out there. I really want to go on a trip even more now. I am going to Las Vegas with my girlfriends in June, I am pretty excited. I have been overseas twice, and studied a semester in Finland. I could be a little homesick at times, but I totally got over it. I had so many interesting times and tried new food and met new people. Everyone should travel if they get the chance, even if it is literally almost out of their backyard!! Thanks for the great quotes and thoughts. You are really an inspiration.

Have a fabulous trip!! Enjoy the fish and chips!

If you haven’t gone to Scotland yet, take a jaunt up there, it is So beautiful!! (though I never did see Nessie :( )

I’m not one much for traveling—went to the states and that’s about it. But my family are big travellers and have come back, better and wiser.

I do love to do weekend trips—we did them every weekend when my dad was alive. And I love to go out exploring the neighborhood, especially on Saturday mornings and the garage sales. You get to meet a lot of neighbors that way and find out what their interests are, just by checking out the stuff they’re trying to sell and asking questions.

Again, have a great time travelling, Allison.

That quote from Mark Twain, though probably said decades ago, has just as much meaning now as it ever did. There is so much misunderstanding and prejudice in the world today, that people sometimes don’t realise just how much everyone has in common, and all the fascinating ideas and lessons you can learn from other cultures.

Exactly! Whenever I feel like I’m stuck in a rut I’ll start to plan another trip. Even if I won’t get the opportunity to actually go for a while, it reminds me that there is so much more to the world than my own little bubble. I’m rarely happier than when I’m experiencing it first hand – it never fails to change my perspective on life.

Dammit, now I have itchy feet again!

I love spending time with my familly whenever we can but as we always go to the same places with the same people it doesn´t feel like travelling to me, it feels more like coming back home from very long and tiring vacations. :D
If we had enough money I would love to experience the different cultures of the world and meet many people that are nothing like myself. Even though I guess if we did have the money, and the time, we would just spend more time in Rio. :D And I really wound not mind that at all, anyway. :D

London is one of my favourite cities, I hope you enjoy it. One of my fave things to do is go and sit in Covent Gardens and just soak up the atmosphere. If you have the chance you should definately make a trip up North to Bonnie Scotland. Edinburgh is a city unlike no other in the UK.
And if you are staying in the Europe area, Italy has to be my favourite place. Every city is so different, and there is so much history to soak up, and notrip is complete without seeing Venice.

    Have a Great Trip Allison,

I’m not keen on travel. Getting from here to there is lost time for me … and my free time is precious to me. I have gone halfway across the across the country to find locked gates between me and what I wanted to see only to return home and click on the TV and follow a camera crew through those gates. I have been in the tunnels under the temple mound in Israel without even leaving my armchair. Mark Twain never had it so good.

As to being prejudice, people who decide to judge others without evidence or reason will still find a way to belittle and hate others no matter where they are. But maybe experiencing the plumbing in other countries will make them realize how good we have it here.

Enjoy your trip, Allison. The 18th Century writer, dictionary-maker, poet, Dr. Samuel Johnson said: “Why, Sir, you find no man, at all intellectual, who is willing to leave London. No, Sir, when a man is tired of London, he is tired of life; for there is in London all that life can afford.” Of course, with the shrinking dollar and the expense of London, some of us have difficulty affording it very often. Usually Johnson is quoted as saying just, “when a man is tired of London, he is tired of life.” That shortened quotation in itself has a truth to it.

A recent issue of New York magazine compared London and New York. They are both great cities. From your previous comments it is apparent you like New York (chiefly Manhattan, I suppose) as well. They are two cities loved by us and, I guess, hated by the terrorists.

Again, have a most enjoyable and educational trip.

    Have a great adventure Allison!

I’m a little jealous. I’m limited to two weeks vacation on a low budget!

I do agree that seeing the world that lies outside ones immediate habitat (even if it’s only going an hour away) is the best thing for fueling one’s appreciation for new experiences. It also makes you appreciate home a little more, too. As nice as it is to travel, there’s nothing like that first night’s sleep back in your own bed.

I was very fortunate to take a three week trip to Borneo with my university (I live in CT), and it was the most amazing experience I’ve ever had. It changed my life forever. I saw and did the most amazing things, and for the first time in my life, I really felt like a part of the world. I wasn’t just a go nowhere kid from my hometown. I’ve always like to travel, but never had a lot of opportunity because of financial reasons. Now that I’m a grown up and gainfully employed, I want to see and do EVERYTHING. I can usually make two or three small trips in a year, and I pack in as much as I can into a long weekend. I end up feeling completely exhausted but also completely refreshed at the same time.

I’ve just started saving for a bigger international trip, and it’ll kill me to have to decide because I want to go everywhere!

Again, have an excellent journey, and I look forward to seeing the pictures you send back.

I came to Toronto once for two plays (Phantom of the Opera) and (Beauty and the Beast), they were both wonderful.

There was one funny thing that happened out of that whole trip, I was bit by a Horse … Painful but funny :) LOL

I have a confession to make. When I first came across your page, I had no clue what to make of it. The blog entries you wrote seemed to me to be almost pretentiously introspective. My overly critical nature got the better of me to be honest. I showed my wife your site and asked her what she thought. She said I was probably just too used to your being someone else on “Smallville”. She reminded me that everyone’s a little odd in real life and that no one’s as simplistic as they come across to you in your ideal world. I thought long and hard about that and decided to come back here and read a little. I ended up reading everything on the site. I couldn’t stop reading it. I’ve got to say that I really feel terribly now about my inital reaction. It’s more than refreshing to see someone using their life so thoroughly for self-improvement and toward actually gaining something from the day to day experiences that so many of us take for granted. I also love how open you are with your fans. You don’t see that very often. Your post about the destructive nature of words and how violence can manifest itself in subversive and not just overt ways really got me thinking about my relationship with my wife. We just recently had a child and it’s been a strain to maintain the love we felt for each other before we were parents, and I know that I’ve taken a lot of it out on her. 12-hour days and constant work at home took their toll, but I unknowingly compounded the problem by being verbally abusive, whether I intended to be or not. Your blog really reminded me that that can happen without your help. It can happen if you aren’t making a concentrated effort to stop it at all times. Thanks for that bit of insight. I can honestly say that, silly as this sounds, someone who sarted out viewing your posts incredulously through a lens of cynism has actually found himself changed through what you wrote. Oh, and just to end things on a humourous note, I was wacthing “Police Academy 6: City Under Siege” a while back and recognized you. I jumped out of my seat and yelled “wait wait wait, roll that back, that was so Allison Mack”. My wife didn’t believe me until we ran it back and heard your line again “you’re much better than the regular driver”…and then that signature Allison / Chloe smile that said you knew something no one else knew. That did it. We both patted ourselves on the back for even realizing that that was you. And on a personal note, you’re by far the prettiest celebrity I know. I tell my wife you remind me of her all the time. :o ) I hope you have a safe and elightening trip and I will hold out hope until the end that you’re still with my favourite show again next season. I’m truly honoured to have a post somewhere on your page.

I would love to travel. But I don’t have the funds to do a whole lot of it. I like getting out and seeing new things and trying new foods. When you stay at home with your kids, it can get very monotonuous. When I find myself getting irritated, sad and tired. I know it’s time for me to go out.

    Hi Allison,
I thought that I would share some of my favorite quotes about travel:

“All that is gold does not glitter, not all those who wander are lost.”

“ It’s a dangerous business…, going out your door. You step onto the road, and if you don’t keep your feet, there’s no knowing where you might be swept off to. -Tolkien

“The World is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page.” -Saint Augustine

“Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry, but by demonstrating that all peoples cry, laugh, eat, worry, and die, it can introduce the idea that if we try and understand each other, we may even become friends.” -Maya Angelou

I haven’t travelled as much as I want to but when I have, the experience has always been inspirational and eye opening. I went to Guatemala once on a mission trip. That trip really did change my life. It made me more thankful than I had ever been for what I have and it opened my heart up to a whole different world of ideas. The people and culture was amazing. I have been other places too,but Guatemala had the biggest impact.

I hope your journies are fabulous!

    Hi Allison,
I wish you a safe and exciting trip. 43 days should indeed be enough to re-charge your batteries. Please also allow me to remind you that you have all the reasons to feel successful, because……well, you are successful. Look at us. We come here week after week. Why? Because you obviously had quite an impact on our lives. If that’s not success, then I don’t know what is. Use these 6 weeks to relax, have fun…..and be proud of yourself!!! :)
I am glad to hear that your trip starts on my home continent, btw. I traveled to all its corners when was young and skinny, from Ireland to Portugal, to Turkey. There is a lot to see, all we have to do is take a first step. The rest follows naturally.
We will be awaiting your return.
    Have fun.

Have a wonderful trip away, I wonder if there is room in your backback for any retail therapy you may partake in!! You could always post home any excess shopping items!! I hope you have included Australia in your itinery! It is autumn here now (you call it ‘fall’) and the colours are so breathtaking…it is also NOT that cold here! (Not like the cold you are used to!) We would definitely look after you here.
Happy trails to you, allison, look forward to hearing all about your adventures.

Hey Allison, I just read all of your blogs and I must say you are a very good writer. You had my attention the whole time with your beautiful choice of words. Anyways I am a huge fan and I am extremely jealous of you and whomever gets to accompany you on your travels. I have always wanted to travel the world. I have traveled the states somewhat, but it’s not the same. Although if you get a chance to go to Oregon, that’s one of the most beatiful places I’ve ever been, I went to Lincoln City and it was awsome. I am from Iowa and its nice but its pretty boring, not a whole lot too see. I hope to see you next season, hopefully your not the one that dies at the end of the season, and if you get a chance check out my profile on myspace. Also, it would be awsome if you could make an appearance at the big comic-con in Chicago this year, I’m hoping to have enough money to finally go this year and if you were there that would be even more incentive. Well, I hope you have a wonderful time, and be safe, its a crazy world out there. I’ll catch ya later, peace out girl scout.

For now I am working as the UK’s first game ranger in a Zoo called Port Lymnpe. We have guests staying in tents over night in the parks grounds. They are of a high quality and over look various free roaming african mammals and the british coast. Since you are in London you should look into spending a night here in the nearest thing to a African Bush camp outside of Africa. We can share stories of our travels and you can experience something few people have. Contact the Zoo direct if you have the time to spare and be sure to mention who you are. Have fun travelling.

Wow, Mark Twain sure wasn’t a small town kind of guy. Interesting that this kind of championing of cosmopolitan values isn’t heard much anymore. Hometown values seem to be dominant (at least insofar as lip sevice), to the point where a statement that “wholesome, charitable views… cannot be acquired… in one little corner of the earth” seems virtually revolutionary.

Curiously, it struck me in the early seasons of Smallville that Chloe was exceptional because she was cosmopolitan. A red state girl stuck in a blue state, outcast in the company of a farmboy, a hometown girl, and a couple of proud homesteaders. The type of folks who in a less kind age were known as “rubes”.

    Oi, Allison!!!
Then will you go to travel? 43 days traveling… WOW… I would like to travel this time… Hum…. That is really cool! I also adore traveling. Travel is a way to get out of our problems and know other people, places… It is a great experience!!! Whenever I can, I and my family catch the car and we put the foot on the road! Usually, we go to distant places of where I live. I confess that travel in a car sometimes is desconfortable, but it is a very cool experience, in special if you want to pass most of the time with the family… I must say that I am a little sad for the fact of that you go to stop writing in this blog, because has been very cool to read your blog all week, but I will have to accustom with this fact, unfortunally. But I wait that you can use to advantage intensely each day of your trip and that you can know many good places of this great world. I wait that, at least, you say where you are. I desire that one hour you can come to my country, Brazil, because here has many pretty things to know (it is complicated until only speaking of one, there are many!!!), even because it is a really big country of a big diversity of peoples and beliefs, as you well know, I think. I must say that I am jealous of the English, but I wait that one day you can come here, but, before, inform us!!! What I can say is that you don’t go to repent. Good, I find that already I made propaganda excessively for today! So, I want to finish desiring you a beautiful trip and good rest, because it doesn’t have to be easy to record for as much time in Smallville (I find that you don’t want to hear to say in Smallville or anything about the series!!!) and that you come back with all the energy, to continue the beautiful work that you are making in my favorite series as Chloe Sullivan (or Miss Sullivan!!! I have to say this!!!).
Bon voyage, or boa viagem (in portuguese)….
    Sincerely,
    Marlos
Ps: beautiful performance in “Noir”, I found that the Chloe of 40′s years is particularly beautiful, but I don’t like Jimmy… He isn’t the certain guy for Chloe!

Good for you, Allison! I know this feeling of yours, and agree whole-heartedly with the quote you’ve chosen. I lived in South Korea for over a year, and there were days when my husband was the only non-Korean face I saw. Everything around us was foreign, exciting, and new. ‘Just passing through’ doesn’t really cut it if you want to learn about and live the culture. You have to get out of the uptown hotel, the restaurants with burgers-n-fries, the spots where everyone can speak your language and provide every comfort. All the normal things. Zzzz. What fun is that?!

I’ve never worked so hard for such long hours. Never been so uncomfortable. Never been happier.

My husband and I grew closer than I thought possible, which was unexpected and the treasure I still keep with me even now. Better than any souvenir!

Traveling provides an endless supply of surprises, maybe even shocks, all going straight to your mind, body and heart. Just like the MT quote indicates, we ALL need this kind of experience at least once in our lives. I can’t imagine the emptiness without mine.

    Be careful!
    Rhonda

I have not had the pleasure of traveling the world, but I can understand where you are coming from Allison.

If you are in one place for too long the world around you seems so big. The bigger you imagine your surroundings, the smaller you feel. But when you in the sky, looking down on the world, you feel bigger because you realize its not the size of the world that determines how big you feel as an individual…it has to do with you and only you.

Hearing it and saying it are two easy however. Its realizing it, and accepting it that takes a while. Im sure my speech can’t do that for you, thats for you to do on your own. I hope you’re able to figure that out because Ive I can tell through your blogs, and seeing you on TV, that you are an amazing person. I really look up to you, and one day I hope to be able to meet you.

Failing that, you could go to Birmingham which has more shops than Paris! (Plus it’s near for me so I’d be able to come and see the lovely Allison!)

Hmmm, and so the miss goes on a journey…

Hope your having a great trip so far, and if your sitting down to a cup of tea/coffee/hot chocolate(I prefer hot chocolate, the kind you get in italy that is really rich where the chocolate really melts in your mouth, not your cheap hot choc mix.) at an internet cafe, I am amazed that you will have the time to sit down and read every single comment, I am amazed at how long the comment page was when it fully loaded.

Seeing that you read alot, I guess its not that hard to believe that you read most of the comments. Though its easier to believe that you hire someone to write for you, due to life’s other more interesting distractions. What I hope to get from you though, is to pick your brain on poetry. Sometime you wrote, a dance with words, and of course asking this of you, I give you one I wrote in return, hopefully you can give one poem on your next entry.

A silent whispher buried in the darkness,
    a homeless heart,
    seeking shelter,
wishing for the rain to wash you away,
in the end you run away,
    a laugh and a tear,
    the sun blinds your eyes,
you feel the warmth of the people around you.

Merry cheers drowning the jeers of those who spite you,
    looking away,
    the dried tears,
remind you of the salty words that were spoken to you,
you find, that by tasting such,
    sweet words become bliss,
how you ache to change it back to what it once was.

A time when days gone by,
Seems like a dream of dreams,
    never ending, flowing with warmth,
    rather than the darkness,
    why don’t they bury it?
    Why doesn’t it rain?
    to Wash away your fears,
    your tears,
    the jeers,
so that you might wake from this one seemingless kiss,
a kiss that of which is life.

    -A seemingless kiss.

    To the miss,
    I bid thee adieu.

Words could never describe how jealous I am of your upcoming travels. There is nothing like leaving the country to go abroad and see how the rest of the world thinks, feels, and operates. A fresh perspective and a renewed sence of self always follows the experiance of seeing life outside the U.S. New places, faces, experiances, moments that you will remember forever…there’s nothing like it.

Take care and have a blast overseas. Take lots of pictures for yourself and come back in one piece.

I just read online that one of the four major characters (clark, lana, lex, and chloe) will die in the season finale. Given the Superman story, we know that Lex and Clark can not die. This means it’s either bye bye Lana or Chloe. I’m praying that they get rid of Lana b/c her character isn’t nearly as likable as yours, but I have this horrible feeling that the Universe hates me, so your character will be killed off.

If this is true, I just want to say that I have loved watching you on Smallville and I hope to see you in future career endeavors on the small and/or big screen. I think you’re a talented, beautiful woman who has really given life to a character who I initially thought was very weak and expendable when Smallville began.

I really hope that Allison Mack actually reads these postings, but if not at least some of you Smallville fans who hadn’t caught wind of the leaked death of one of the leading roles will read this and be prepared to say goodbye to Chloe Sullivan and thank Allison for her great work we’ve enjoyed the past six years.

    THANK YOU ALLISON!!!

Allison, have an awesome trip! I’m so impressed with your thinking and style. You keep going outside of the box. Instead of Star Trekkin, you’re Trekkin in the Spirtual, Mental, and Physical realms that we enjoy. That drive you have, don’t ever let it die.
As I like to tell my campers, even if we aren’t moving, we’re still on a journey. This planet is turning every day, we rotate around the Sun in our Solar System, the Solar System moves about in our Galaxy, and our Galaxy moves around the Universe. We’re never still. Stillness is non-existence.
Enjoy your trip, each day is new and unfoldng before us.
    Peace always,

Hey there, Allison! This here’s Roger The Cart Goon! I done used ta write ya alla time way way back in the summer o’ ought 3, ‘member? Y’all was hawkin’ them l’il yellow cameras? Well, I gotta say y’all has come a long ways since then. Now, when I watch Smallville, if’n I kin git th’ tin foil on them rabbit ears jes’ right, I allus watch fer Chloe and not fer no one else!

Y’all know what? You be THE mos’ authentic cryer I ever done seen in moom pitchers. Know hows I kin tell? Well, there be these things called “micro-expressions” that people do when they’s fer-real happy or fer-real sad or some such. I cain’t tell y’all ‘zackly what it be that ya do when ya cry on accounta then you’d be thinkin’ bout it and y’all might try to copy yerself which would interfere with yer dramatic instrument an’ process. Lemme jes’ say, when that Chloe cries, it done be like a arrow through muh heart. (I knows ’bout thet micro-expression stuff on accounta tha’s how the sheriffs done busted muh cousin Jessup fer boostin’ a hay baler.)

Well now, y’all be careful over there in China, Allison. Our economic relations be tense at th’ moment, plus they eat cats over there (take yerself a stroll through the market if’n y’all think I’m joshin’). Oh, an’ bring lotsa M&Ms! Them things be like cigarettes in prison when y’all’re in China. The Chinese don’t git ‘em over there an’ they love ‘em.

An’ y’all said “completely rehydrated from the well of life.” That be jes’ beautiful, Allison. Now, y’all be sure ‘n’ keep yerself a journal. An’ I ‘spect a FULL report on th’ M&M shortage over there when y’all git back!

Take care, an’ y’all drink deep from that well. That ain’t th’ normal advice I’d done give ta someone over here in th’ USA where mosta th’ wells have a LOT more’n water in ‘em. But y’all know what I means.

Now you have yerself th’ time o’ yer life!

I’m reading your blog in reverse order but it already sounds as though you’re on a spiritual journey, an intense one.

Lucky you! Lucky you, not only to have such doubts and questions, but to have what it takes to pursue the answers. You will find what you’re looking for — but you’ll know it when you see it, truly see it, so go slow in coming to conclusions. These realizations come a bit at a time — unless you’re a very fortunate (and usually male) religious figure, in which case the meaning of the universe hits you all at once in one blazing revelatory truth.

You said “that weird ambitious feeling that sticks in my gut and never allows me to feel successful no matter how far I get is completely gone.” Fascinating! You’re one of the finest actors working, and much of your success is likely due to the driving ambition which forbids you to feel successful. That may be the formula for “great actor.”

You don’t know how good you are — for the sort of work you do, that’s healthy. But it sounds as though you’re seeking a deeper gratification than a job well-done.

This can be a compelling journey. I must read more of your blog…

I can definitly understand why so many people have the desire to travel…because it really is such a life changing and insightful experience.

I am currently a freshman in college but I will never forget the first time I went on a trip of my own apart from my family. It was a sister-city youth exchange during the summer of my sophomore year of highschool. I stayed with a family along the Bodensee in southern Germany (which borders Germany, Switzerland, and Austria) for about three weeks. It was an absolutly amazing experience because many times when I have gone on vacation with family or friends to different places across the US it makes it so much easier to just get stuck in my own little bubble, and harder to actually indulge in the culture and come to know the people’s way of life. But having had the opportunity to stay with a family where no one speaks English, where hot guys run around the streets in pink speedos, riding my bike five miles to the local school each day and debating politics with the students, having gothic catedrals, and fairytale castles on the hilltops, and medieval cities, the Alps out your windowsill, and crystal clear lakes to swim in (near the guys with pink speedos)….let me just say…it was NIIIIIICE!!!!!!! And words cannot do it justice. I am the oldest of 7, so it isn’t often that I have opportunities like that so I was truly blessed that I was able to have such an amazing experience at such a young age. Ever since I have had an unquenchable desire to travel and explore other cultures.

Then two summers ago, I went with a Church group to the Weltjugendtag (World Youth Day) in Koln, Germany. On the way there we stopped in Dublin, Paris, the Netherlands, and Belgium…all of these places were absolutly gorgeous (though the Eiffel tower sure does look bigger on TV) but for me the most memorable experience of the entire trip was actually walking into the gates a WWII concentration camp in former East Germany and while there actually seeing blood on the ashened rocks (the Nazi’s burned down the camps so the world would never know what they had done). I could actually feel the death there. And then when we were walking the streets of Dublin there was a homeless woman lying along the side of the road in torn clothes with a baby in her arms. And going on the subway in Paris and seeing all the drunken people on the streets with no where to go….and I know there are places in the US with just as much poverty and hardship tho I have never been there.

Its just…impossible…to be able draw conclusions about the rest of the world and other cultures by what we learn in the classroom, without having actually seen with our own eyes. It reminds me that I still have so much more to learn about the world in which we live and that I really shouldn’t let life pass me by.

    Allison,

If you are in the UK, you should make every attempt to get to Dublin, Ireland. The Temple Bar area is such a good time. Or if you are more into the countryside, County Claire where you can see the Cliffs of Mohr are unreal. I lived in Dublin for almost three years and it was the time of my life.

And if you stop in Boston on your way back to Vancouver, my tour guiding abilities are at your disposal.

Lastly, you were incredible in the season finale. Sept cannot get here soon enough to see what happens next. Did I really just wish away the summer?

I LOVE traveling… Thanks to God and my mom I have been able to travel a lot at such a young age (17 turning 18 this year)… I really don’t think I deserve it (here is me punishing myself… but seriously… I have just done what I am supposed to do… I’m lucky :) )
Anyways… I really do love meeting new people… if they speak a different language than mine (spanish) it’s even better… just to see how I can get closer to someone that has such different life style from mine… I LOVE THAT… also… I love traveling with my family (a bunch of 50 year old people or older haha) just coz I love my family… and what is better than spending your days learning from people from a different country and get to share this learning with the people you love? (coz i am the translator lol… )
I feel SO free when I travel… like I can do anything… like all my dreams and goals are obteinable… awesome!
Also love traveling with my friends… It’s just a way to get closer to them… which I love :D
I have never traveled alone… but I wish I could… so that maybe I could actually open even more to other people… because I do think that when you are with people you know you close your mind a little bit… and how awesome would it be to actually have a totally open mind and heart for everything that happens, and for everyone?!
Thanks for your blogs!! very inspiring!
*sorry for any mistakes i might have… but its late and i mix spanish with english at such late hours LOL*
