I’m a straight-up nerd. I’m one of those guys who posts on message boards after watching Smallville. I think the best description I’ve heard about you is, “[Allison Mack is someone who] can throw like five emotions into a long glance… she’s awesome”. You are one of the few current actresses who doesn’t play the ‘silly girl who needs help’. It’s refreshing to see a strong, independent woman on TV. Where can we expect to see more of you outside of “Chloe Sullivan”?Also, please stop saying “um”.

November 9th, 2007 at 2:36 pmAs you were listing your favorite authors, I was waiting to hear “James Joyce.” If you love short stories, you’ll love Joyce’s “Dubliners.”
Working actors like you never have time to read; and when you do have time, your taste for reading has probably been vitiated by plowing through bad scripts for projects that will never go anywhere.
But if and when you find the time and have the inclination, I suggest you do something that I neglected to do, and I deeply regret it: read books by people who have beliefs diametrically opposed to yours. I spent way too much of my time reading books that simply reinforced what I already had learned and already believed. I wasted time going beyond learning anything new and instead enjoyed being comfortable listening to what I wanted to hear.
The most challenging author YOU can read right now is Theodore Dalrymple. His book “Life At The Bottom” examines how the worldview of the underclass is shaped. He says exactly the things we don’t want to hear, that the poor and the disenfranchised are the way they are because they choose to be. In other words, it’s YOUR fault if your poor.
Dalrymple is scary because he’s brilliant. He’s no Limbgaugh-style screamer; but intelligent as he is, he still makes a fundamental mistake in his reasoning, and it’s as plain as the nose on your face. Read him and see if you can catch it. It’s the same mistake the “blame-the-victim” crowd always makes.
If you have honest plans to embark on the horribly rocky path of helping others, you have to know how the enemy thinks. You have to be ready to counter what they say, what they think, and what they do. So read him if you have the chance.
Oh, and by the way, you’re a pretty darn good actor and singer too!

Allison, you’re such a passionate person! Your passion shows in your acting, and it is obvious that you are dedicated to your craft for all the right reasons. It’s too easy to want to act for fame or fortune, and you’ve seem to steer clear of those vices.
You are such a balanced person, and I find it so admirable that you don’t lose yourself or neglect yourself in this business. I think it is so tempting to that in any type of work, and you make it a must to have some “Allison time.” It shows in your personality and just the way you carry yourself. Good for you.
I can’t say thank you enough for answering my questions. You answered two out of the three of my questions, and that is more than I can ever hope for! Thank you thank you thank you!
I will definitely look into the authors/books that you have mentioned. Your descriptions have perked my interest!
So refreshing how you find inspiration in the people around you. That means that you are open to anything and constantly absorbing the world around you like a sponge. I believe that you have to hunt for inspiration because it won’t come searching for you!

I was so excited when you said Tim Robbins was one of your favorite authors. I think he is an incredible writer. I know you like short stories, but even though she isn’t a short story writer, I highly reccommend any book by Jodi Picoult, more specifically, “My Sisters Keeper” and “The Pact”, both incredible books.Thank you again for your time, and blessing all of us with your presence. Wow!! Talk about being able to touch people all around the world just by doing something as small as a video blog!! I’ve been a fan of Smallville since we first got it in South Africa, and have followed it since.
As possibly lame as this may sound, I’ve gone through a lot of the emotions that Chloe experienced on the show and it’s refreshing to see a new take on young adult life, even by showing the trials and tribulations many have to face…including some realising that they are destined for greater things.
I’ve been hoping to see you in some other parts within other series or movies, but I guess we’ll all have to wait until you find the right script.I do need to say that although the only time I’ve ever seen you would be on set or in your blog, but you have that je ne sais quoi…probably without even knowing it.
You have a rare ability to make people smile, even on their toughest days, simply by smiling yourself. Funny how Chloe is portrayed as quirky, yet able to show that both her, and secretly yourself, have other sides, that resemble a woman of great influence through an uncanny ability to remain humble despite the situations in life and the changes that come with it.I’d like to hope that one day, there will be more people like both yourself and Kristin in this world, because through the understanding you have of life and the horrors we face by being idol, actions are needed by those who are gradually inheriting this world and this life if we are to have a future.

I think the reason you don’t show up in the gossip rags is because you have a respect for yourself and your work.. …you’re an artist, not a celebrity. People treat you ultimately how you treat yourself .The Videos are great, but I miss your Articles though. You are a very good writer and should try to do more with that.

You really should read Dalrymple — he’ll make the top of your head fly off but it’s always good to know how the other side thinks.
That basic flaw in his thinking that I mentioned? Well, you’ll likely not have the time to read him, so the flaw is this:
The blame-it-all-on-the-victim thinkers always refute the power of sociological forces, like poverty, in the shaping of the underclass. They make such a point of personal responsibility and self-reliance that they end up refuting the concept of sociological forces altogether — they seem to think that each person’s will stands supreme, that the world is a vacuum and therefore all human failure is solely the fault of the individual.
However, people like him are ALWAYS ready to blame the sociological force of “liberalism” as the root cause of all our difficulties.
Well, one can’t have it both ways, can one? Either there are outer determinants acting upon us, or there aren’t. Which is it?
That’s the flaw, and it’s a big one. I truly believe in self-reliance and personal responsibility, but I’m not so naive as to think that billions of people DON’T need a hand and will never have a chance unless someone helps them. “Other people” are a personal responsibility for many of us.
I don’t mean to politicize your board, but it’s interesting to hear a celebrity talk about becoming involved in microfinance rather than adopting a Third-World baby in front of a 125-man film crew to prove they’re on the right side of this problem.

Thank you for the three wondrous experiences you have brought to your fans on these three videos. I felt thoroughly happy with the last part, because it was posted exactly on the day of my birthday (one hour after midnight). I love when the coincidences come up on the right moment.
On the week when the advertisement about posting questions for this interview was posted, I did my list of questions, I always took care on making them the most interesting and comfortable for you, on any word. I was utterly sure that some of them were going to be picked up. It’s sad to say that I was late, because when I tried to send them the blog entry was closed. So I stayed deeply sad holding the paper of my questions and wrapping my desires to take part on the interview. What can I say?, maybe it was the destiny or maybe it was a motivation for the future, to do everything a little bit faster and on the right moment.
About the roles you wouldn’t do, please always bear in mind that you don’t deserve a common, good or excellent script, you deserve the best of the best, something uncomparable, unique and fine just like you.
I would like to know what is going on with your director role for Smallville’s episode 20? Directors’ strike is going to affect your plans? If it is so, could be possible that Smallville’s actors could become directors?

It is really great to watch these three parts of the videoblog !
Not only you are very clever and fascinating, but also you are very beautiful.
As many fans here, I have read lots of interviews, but this videoblog is a really original way.
You say that you look to everyone for inspiration, to all the people around you all the time : as far as I am concerned, you are a huge source of inspiration for myself.Then, if you ask yourself all the time why you would be if you were not an actress, I think it is the sign that you are someone reflective.
One moment or another, you have to make a decision about what you want to do in your life – but that does not mean that you cannot think of what it could have been if you had taken the other option.
Anyway, we all are happy that you decided to be an actress : you are very talented.Thank you also for this beautiful song you perform.
I hope that, one day, there will be a musical episode in “Smallville” so that we can hear the wonderful voice you have got again

But I’m just starting out, just finished my degree and am about to enter the old cut-throat world. First off you do an awesome job I very much enjoy the work that you do. I have watched every show of Smallville huge fan. I liked so many things about the show but, the two things that always stood out is.
Chloe is beautiful intelligent strong character (Too often shows want beautiful airhead goofy women with no brains)
Her loyality and true friendship to Clark even if he didn’t have feelings for her like she wanted. I think everybody would love a true friend like Chloe so she is really easy to relate too.The first time I saw you in an interview was the backstage special the cw ran. It was nice to hear everyone talk. I’m so glad you did this site I hope you do it along time.

I thought it was a great idea to answer your fan’s questions, I think that is really important to keep this strange relationship of fans and idols as close as possible, it seems more real to us, I guess.
And it’s also cool because it’s not only you talking, we can ask and say things too. That’s how we know if you have the same opinions that we have, or just if you red a book that we did, saw a movie that we saw… stuff like that are really important to us. =D
Like when you said you love Harry Potter, I’m a huge fan, you should start reading it again, the last book is awesome, anyway… I really want to know about the Wild Ducks Flying Backwards… it’s a funny name, I was searching about Tom Robbins, and all of his books have funny names.
And it’s cool that you like poems, I do too… I feel like floating when I’m reading them (don‘t ask)…
I saw in the videos that you like all of variations (o.o) of art, like music, movies, theater, books and a lot of other things, this is really cool, it shows that you’re doing what your doing because you love it. I think this is one of the keys to do it as well as you do. If you never lose this… I don’t know, passion for art, you’ll be always successful, at least that’s what I think

I have to say, Allison… your voice is just… *dreamy sigh* God. I would LOVE to hear and own an entire album by you. You have one of the most beautiful voices I’ve heard in a long time. It kind of reminds me of someone else I’ve listened to in the past, but I can’t think of who.

I can see how much you love reading so I’d like to recommend reading the book Walden by Henry David Thoreau. I had to read it for my critcal English class and even though it was difficult to understand at times I think I took a lot out of reading it. If you have read it I’d love to know what you thought about it. Please post in an upcoming vlog. Oh you should also pick up a book called Eat, Pray, Love. I heard about it on Oprah. Do you watch Oprah? It’s a good show; you should check it out. Back to the book, a lot of people have said great things about it.
