Hey Allison,

I'm glad that you've been thinking about your purpose in life. It can be an extremely hard thing to wrap your skull around, believe me. I wish all the success possible to all of your endeavours.

Okay so I was just thinking about this, talking to Allison about some projects....

I think that I'm coming to realize my purpose, which is to "get stuff done" (as opposed to Allison's which is to "make stuff" and "appreciate stuff".

I'm always attaching myself to what I do best, which is software engineer work. But, I realized that I'm not going to be doing that for the rest of my life. I'm going to be a CEO, with people to manage. So I think that ultimately, my purpose is to do just that. "get stuff done".

YAY!

First, thanks to you and Tabby for taking the time to get the signed photos out!! I really appreciate the time and effort y'all put into doing that for us. I'm happy to hear you found a charity to support that sounds like it mirrors so much of what your heart reflects. As for purpose, I believe it, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder. Everyone asks, at somepoint in their lives (probably more than once), what their purpose is in life. Lord knows there are a litney of sources one can read up on to find an answer to that question. However, I believe the answer is as simple as it is profound, our purpose is to be that which we are. We all get caught up in worrying about tomorrow, and the next day, and everything going on around us that I think we forget to enjoy the now - and when you get down to it we live in the now. This eludes back to my definiton of purpose, for even as I am that I am, so to I must remember to enjoy the moment - for each moment is precious and to be treasured.

All the best to you.

Your friend in Christ.

I'm glad you liked it. After reading it back, I thought it a bit naive and extreme. But you know what, somebody good told me that there is nothing wrong with that.
Thank you for your kind words, but its just the way i try to live. Plan for the worst but hope for the best.x

James, that was great. Thanks for writing that.

"it’s hard to see when there is someone with genuinely selfless motivation, but they exist..."

I believe the best examples of these people were the prophets of God, and those who follow in their footsteps.

Part of something pretty special.

I don't know how many times this kind of thing will have been said to you before, but as you're right in the middle of something pretty special, i didn't know whether it has ever come into focus just how magnificent your situation is.

I'm a huge fan of the Superman mythology and have oftern had to fight off jibes about growing up. Now you see, i have no problem in doing this as my feelings on it are pretty strong and usually after presenting my case, people can usually understand me.

People can take inspiration from anywhere but, after losing faith in a religion i was raised in, i had to not only find a benchmark for morals but also a reason for having them. Pretty extreme i know..... but still.

A bit long winded, but hear me out. You see superman has been around for years and interpreted in many ways, Smallville being the most helpfull for the adolescent teen. But i always had the end result. Superman.

But he was always the end result. Just stood for things good.... just because.

The interpretaition you are now a part of, shows how he got there. Awsome. Watching the lot back to back would, i'm quite sure, be a how-to on personal moral growth.

This has been the interpretation i have ripped from various points of the mythology.

Faster than a speeding bullet! More powerful than a locomotive! Able to leap tall buildings in a single bound!

Superman. Strange visitor from another planet who came to Earth with powers and abilities far beyond those of mortal men, can change the course of mighty rivers, bend steel in his bare hands, and who, disguised as Clark Kent, mild-mannered reporter for a great Metropolitan newspaper fights a never-ending battle for truth, justice and...... I think you get the picture.

In actuality, Born on Earth in the midst of the depression, Superman brought hope to a nation. A character who gave people somebody to look up to, a nice ideal that if you were in trouble and were to call his name, he would drop from the sky to save you.

Superman is not about abusing the power he has for personal gain, but instead, helping others. He asks no reward or thanks but instead takes what he needs from knowing what he has done is for the greater good. That he has helped someone is reward in itself.

Maybe world events of recent times and the extreme greed and glorification of capitalism in the 80's has left us all too cynical. Unable to accept the possibility of a person like this.

In an age where the western world seems to be losing it's ties to religion, you can't help but wonder what is left to govern mankind, apart from corrupt politicians that appear bent on wealth and stardom. Where do we pull our values from? Who do we look up to?

More commonly in today’s media, the characters that seem to SELL are darker and generally do what they do through some form of revenge related motivation, and there way of dealing with problems tends to be more aggressive and violent. The worrying part of all that is that the media is a product of the society in which we live. A refection of public mood.

No matter where you go in the world people will recognize the Superman logo, but so few know what it truly stands for. On my travels around the world, i learnt that the superman logo represented, to some, American capitalism. The opportunity, by the companies that own the rights to his name, to cash in. Also was the response that superman represents all the world hates about America. The most powerful force on earth, forcing it's will on others..... So misinterpreted.

Let's try and remember, although that a big company owns the right to the name, Superman is public property. He can be inspiration in a selfish world.

Just imagine if people tried to be a bit more like him, a bit more helpful, a bit more caring, a bit more concerned for the welfare of others. What a world it would be.

In an age of cynicism, greed and violence, superman offers a belief in the greater good, a reminder of virtue.... a light to show the way.

He shows that you can only become inferior to others by setting yourself above them. That you should lead by inspiration. Let your actions and ideals become a touchstone against which mankind may learn how to serve the common good. While it is impossible for you to interfere with history, your leadership can stir others to their own capacity for moral betterment. The virtuous spirit has no need for thanks or approval, only the certain conviction that what has been done is right. Develop such conviction in yourself. The human heart is still subject to small jealousies, lies, and monstrous deceptions. Resist these temptations as you inevitably find them.

But above all, every chance you get, love everyone who'll let you, in any way that feels right. Those who always expect the worst mearly sit on the surface of an ocean full of riches.

People are, at the core, good. Tanks to characters like Lex, we get to see that everyone was, at one time, somebodys child, a blank canvas on which the parents could paint a good or bad picture. Let's just remember that it's never to late to whip out the thinners and start again.

In an age of war, religious extremes, con men and corrupt, powerfull 'societies with secrets' claiming possitive intentions, it's hard to see when there is someone with genuinely selfless motivation, but they exist and it's up to the individual to make the decision to improve from the inside out. and it's also up to the individual to decide to stop being a victim of circumstance and upbringing and make the neccessary changes to be the best person they can be.

So a massive thank you and the character you play so well showing that everone needs people they can call friend and for your part in keeping the myth alive and making it accessable to a new generation. x

In an age of war, religious extremes, con men and corrupt, powerfull ‘societies with secrets’ claiming possitive intentions, it’s hard to see when there is someone with genuinely selfless motivation, but they exist and it’s up to the individual to make the decision to improve from the inside out. and it’s also up to the individual to decide to stop being a victim of circumstance and upbringing and make the neccessary changes to be the best person they can be.

So a massive thank you and the character you play so well showing that everone needs people they can call friend and for your part in keeping the myth alive and making it accessable to a new generation. x
