Want to go on an adventure with me?
Posted by Allison Mack | Filed under Blog, Community, Projects, Thoughts
So often, I find myself racing through my life, so focused on where I’m going that I don’t stop to enjoy where I am. My friend Sara said to me once that we are so busy acting as humans doing that we forget we are humans being. My God, did this ever resonate with me. So, recently, I have really tried to focus on acting as a human being, and because of this, I am so enjoying the process of creating and experiencing each and every moment.
This being said, I was reading an article recently about an amazing artist/actress/writer/filmmaker named Miranda July, and I found out about an online project she has been doing with another gentleman for the last few years. It’s such a beautiful thing that she’s doing… She and her partner come up with different assignments for anyone to participate in accomplishing, and they have created a site for people to post and share the completion of these assignments. If you want to look at it the site is learningtoloveyoumore.com, and it’s awesome! I was so inspired by this concept that i decided to make my own project like this for my site. I was sharing this idea with one of my best friends, and she told me about something that she and her husband used to do in which they would create an annual calendar filled with their own “celebration days”—days dedicated to celebrating or doing something they loved!
I thought this was wonderful and combined her idea with that of Miranda July… So, this is what I have come up with—an annual calendar that has 4 celebration days per month that are dedicated to different projects/assignments/creations/or events! Here is the first set! I hope you enjoy and participate in these fabulous adventures with me!
All my love,
Allison

Adapt! Be creative! Instead of photographing loved ones with a leaf, photograph them with Sasquatch. And if you are having trouble getting Sasquatch to agree to it, cover your loved ones with peanut butter and jelly first. Your loved ones are sure to get a lick … a KICK out of it.

November 20th, 2007 at 11:08 amI do have to agree with Darwin, this is going to be a trifle difficult for those that are already under snow (a friend in Pa had 3″ the other day) and those of us that dont seem to have those beautiful autumnal changes (the leaves in my area of Texas go from green to brown to dead on the ground…seemingly overnight). However, I do think it’s an awesome project and look forward to seeing what other ideas you come up with.

November 20th, 2007 at 12:15 pmI like Autumn too.
Thank you for telling us about the website learningtoloveyou.com.
For a very long time, I questioned my retrospective moods. But, since you’ve started your blog, I’m relieved and happy to know that I’m not the only one who’s on a journey, thinking deeply about life, people, nature, feelings, myself as a human being, etc.
Sometimes, it’s like reading my own thoughts and feelings. Your blog is really inspirational, moving, heartwarming and a pick-me-up for the spirit. An annual calendar with different projects etc. is a wonderful idea. I can’t participate in this photograph project but I’ll enjoy seeing the picture of others.
Bless you.

November 20th, 2007 at 4:31 pmHi, Allison!
I’m not sure if you do have time to read each one of these comments, but I’d really wanted to confort you. Or, at least, try to.
You see, I spend lots of time reading about actors, their lives and work. Most of the time, they don’t have time to talk about themselves. Never do they share their feelings or deep thoughts with us.
I love your blog! It’s so… humanly…
So, never fear. You are a great human being!
As for loving ourselves. Your friend is totally right. We spend so much time just doing what we’re told… We often forget to follow our hearts.
Hope you enjoy your new life!
And, wow! Do you see how loved you are in Brazil?
You should visit us, sometime.
An international citizen like you would really appreciate the tour.
Maybe you should add it to your “thingsIlove” calendar.Lots of love!

November 22nd, 2007 at 10:55 pmHi Allison.
You got an amazing idea.
This morning in Montreal all the leaves are on the ground under 15 cm of snow.
Tonight I walked in the snow and it was amazing. I saw some frosted leaves refusing to fall.
The leaves can be stored for very long. I found some leaves in an old dictionary ten years later in good condition. Last weekend, I installed with my wife and my daugther our Christmas decorations.Your pictures are very nice and you look happy.
Have a good day.Claude.

November 23rd, 2007 at 1:00 pmI can completely identify with the need every now and then to stop doing and just be. It’s so easy to get get lost in the stress not just of work, but of leisure time as well– with things to do, books to finish and activities to plan. Lately I have discovered a new route to work in the morning that involves a long walk along a pathway bordering a reservoir. Walking is a great way to let my mind wander, to let go and be unfocused for a while (can’t really do that driving). It’s an added bonus that there is a bit of nature mixed in; fall is changing to winter, the light is a little different each day, dawn a little later. It’s great to have time to just observe, to get centered, to contemplate.

Please please can you take the time to send me a signed photo to help me with my fundraising. I’m obviously not going to post my address here as you never know who is reading this, so please please could you or someone on behalf of you email me for my address. I live in england so i understand postage can be a problem, i’m happy to send postage if i know it will get a response, but to be honest i haven’t got the money to waste for no reply.
You say to be the change you wish to see in the world, i can’t change the world but this is me doing my bit.
It means everything to me to give support to families coping with this, i really hope you can find it in your heart to help me.
Thanks for atleast reading this.

November 23rd, 2007 at 5:10 pmHuman beings are social “creatures”. I’m an introvert myself, so it’s quite difficult for me to meet and talk to people unless they take the initiative. The internet provides for me a medium where I can post my thoughts without being held back due to my inherent shyness. I think you’re idea is pretty cool for people who consider you special enough to deem themselves as your fan, but cannot interact with you on a personal basis. It’s nice that you take the time to respond to them in a manner in which they can feel appreciated.

Using the DIRECT approach, I found Sasquatch footprints…but no Sasquatch standing inside them.
Perhaps Peanut Butter and Jelly IS the key!And Hey! Heather B:
So Texas and the Great White North have something in common! I live more than a few hundred miles east of “Kansas”…at least the “Kansas”
where they shoot Smallville. But I was discussing the leaf problem with a friend…and we came up with
cutting and coloring leaves…and adding sparkles!Okay…it was HER idea to add the sparkles!
Now I just need to find somebody to take a picture with it!
…Are there any…romantic-leaf-holding/picture taking people databases out there?

November 24th, 2007 at 12:58 amHi! the idea of learningtoloveyoumore.com is awesome and very interesting, something that many of us have ever thought. Hopefully, it has been taken to internet through that website. Besides I don’t understand well how to handle some of its functionalities I appreciate the idea. On my spare time I will look into more about this website. What really attracts me is the fact that people puts a sort of difficult and freaky goals (the assignments) and they dare to go for them without complexes.
I also would like to see you and Kristin on the “Capella Innovations” festival, suddenly now I don’t have enough money to make the trip. It’s something that I’ll have to solve for the next year. I wish that you two have a wondrous day; and, of course, that you enjoy a lot the role of being judges of the competition. Please take many photographs of the event.
I’ve been reading about the writers strike and I found that there’s a campaign related to the buy of pencils. Personally, I’m not agree with the idea; nevertheless I’ve already donated with the purpose of doing something for them. I would like that you tell me, if there’s another way how the fans of TV series could support to finish the strike. Maybe we could send millions of e-mails to specific addresses or maybe we could donate to pay Smallville’s writers salaries for a while, in order to let them finish the last scripts of the seventh season. What I really want is that you get to direct the episode twenty, I shared your happiness since the day when you announced that were going to take the role of director and I think that it’s not fair that you lose this opportunity. I imagine that you must be feeling a bit of sadness and uncertainty, because being director was your newest motivation and you prepared during 8th months to assume this new role on your career. Surely, they’ll give you the chance on the next year, but I would like that it would happen now. -I got to dream the episode 20 day, we would have to chat face to face to tell you about the script!-. Just say what we could do to for the writers, just throw the idea I will always support you.
Bye my sweet Allison

Fall has always been my most favorite season, I love looking around and seeing all of the beauty that explodes in what seems to be a moment. Unfortunately it also seems to fade in a moment, all the leaves here are currently snow covered but the idea was amazing. I want to tell you how much I admire you for a woman your age you have an incredible wisdom that most look all there lives for and never come close to finding. If I had one piece of unsolicated advice it would be… Trust your instincts and don’t over think things. A good friend of mine used to tell me ” If your constantly waiting for the other shoe to fall, it eventually will.”
You are amazing and I hope that your life is filled with unmeasureable amounts of love and happiness. With love,

November 26th, 2007 at 12:38 pmOnce again, another great idea! For those of you in the US and our North of the border friends: if you need leaves, come on down to Alabama. Seriously, we have them EVERYWHERE. We can’t keep our porches and yards free of leaves. Really–it would be a public service, we’d get rid of a few leaves, you’d get a great pic., and we’d all win!
Where I live, it hasn’t snowed in almost two years (and that was just a dusting) so all I ask is that once you leave with your great leaf picture, you send a little snow our way!

November 26th, 2007 at 4:50 pmwell i went out today to try and find a beautiful leaf, but all the ones i can find are already mulched up by peoples feet or cars or other trampling. it’s quite sad
but i guess there’s beauty in destruction and knowing it’s all being returned to the earth.so instead i took some pictures of the beautiful autumnal sky. i never realised how much i love autumn until i moved to my new house which is opposite a park. its not particularly green but it’s still pretty in the mornings. my room faces the park and the sun rising over the trees. it makes getting up for work totally worth it.
