MackEvent: Joy!
Posted by Allison Mack | Filed under Blog
Hey all!!!
I know you must have thought that I dropped off the face of the earth because you have not heard from me in so long… but HOORAY! I am not dead! In fact, I am very much alive!
And, I want to send out the next celebration event!!!
This week, I am trying to focus on joy!
Again, I seem to find myself getting totally stuck in the negative, and I forget how amazing and beautiful the world is! So this week, let’s try and collect joy. Collect moments that you find joyful and document them! Submit your photos to mackevents@allisonmack.com, or post your written responses or YouTube links here in this entry as a comment.
Harness joy. Whether it is the sound of it or a picture or a movie, go out and seek joy!!
xoxo

June 9th, 2008 at 1:23 amI’m turning 34 tomorrow and I’m looking forward to celebrating my birthday because, this year, it is more kind of a jumpstart to new healthy life.
I’ve set myself life changing goals. Living a happy and healthy life is the most important one. I have realized that is up to me to enjoy life to the hilt because life is too beautiful and precious to be taken for granted. I used to turn to food or shopping for comfort but I don’t want to do that anymore and I don’t want to let myself stuck in the negative either.
It is not easy to feel cheerful every day but putting a smile on my face does make a difference. A positive mindset and an upbeat attitude can make feel other people good too because I believe that a person can exude positive energy and positively influence other people.I have this incredible feeling that my journey has only just begun. There will be ups and downs but I’m determined to go through life smiling and enjoying every minute of it. I’m going to face whatever life throws at me and I’m going to make the best of it.
There is no one to take a picture but imagine a photo showing a smile (from ear to ear) on my face and me jumping for joy. That would express how happy and energized I’m feeling right now.
Joy…simple…energizing…empowering…and invaluable to every person.
Thanks for posting this entry. I’m hoping you are having a really wonderful time. Enjoy your time off.
*hugs*

June 9th, 2008 at 8:01 amWhat makes me happy? A lot of stuff in life. Sleeping in on rainy mornings (like today…), my little almost-2-year-old cousin, any family i spend time with, music, dancing, my best friend, spending time with my brother, playing video games, a nice cold shower after getting sunburned at the lake, driving around in my Jeep with the Eagles or Billy Joel turned up all the way, summer vacation in general, a nice home-cooked meal, anything Harry Potter, Superman, Narnia, Twilight, or Indiana Jones, watching a good movie at the theater, curling up with a good book, animals, and running around barefoot. But you know what? I’m gonna find joy in everything I do today, just for the heck of it. =)
Love from Arkansas!

http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/159120I also find that sponsoring a child for World Vision is giving me a lot of joy, even in my difficult moments. Just knowing that I make a difference in her life, and she has it a lot tougher than mine, is enough to bring me back into the right path. Like Paulo Coelho said : ” Happiness is something that multiplies when it get divided”.
A last advice if I may. Don’t wait for someone or something to be happy. Just be happy with nothing, be happy to be alive, to breath, to walk. Be in love with the world at every second of your life.

Celebrating my wife’s birthday tomorrow will be another great source of joy.
Being married to her for forty years this December will be another wonderful occasion.
Each day of our lives there are so many people, things, events, and surroundings that can enrich our lives.
May each of you find joy this day.

June 9th, 2008 at 8:36 amI am finding joy in the fact that I enjoy what I do for a living, and that I have just made it through a very difficult time in my life were I almost lost everything that I have worked so hard for. I had to file bankruptcy but it turned out to be a blessing, because now I am catching up, and life is much more beautiful when you know it’s going to be ok. And that is just it, no matter what, things have a way of working out and I find tremendous joy in that!!!

June 9th, 2008 at 11:36 amHello Allison,
In my life, I never had a fatherly figure. I have a father but to me that is just a title for somebody who helped gave birth and put me in this world. Without this role modeling inspiration, I tend to find inspiration and motivation among television shows or movies. I also fear, I too, might be like my father. Someday when I have kids of my own, I want to show them that I will be there for them no matter what. I have doubts sometimes that I could live up to that expectation. So I searched for somebody that can show me how it feels to be a real father. I found this Youtube video about Team Hoyt… This video gives me great joy of watching it and it never cease to amaze me. One of my all time favorite videos ever and a hero in my book. I would like to share this with everybody who took the time to read my joy comment. I posted the link above but just in case it does not show up, I am posting it again here.

It is a 10 minute video and I assure you it will not be a waste of your time.

June 9th, 2008 at 11:38 amHey there Allison,
So good to hear from ya! We can’t get enough of your thoughts!
What are joyful moments for me…..
1. When my entire family is sitting down and just having some laughs. We love being goofy and those are the best moments.
2. The moment when an inside joke is created among my good friends.
3. Watching/reading something very thought-provoking. I love being inspired and bringing myself down to earth by seeing how others deal with hardships and overcome them.
4. Listening to a song that literally gives you goosebumps. I can never get enough of that!
5. Cuddling up in a blanket when it’s really cold and feeling that sudden feeling of warmth taking over my body.
6. Putting a smile on someone else’s face and making them feel better, even for a moment. VERY rewarding.
7. When the lightbulb goes on after studying something really mentally challenging.
8. When a friend makes a statement that is inadvertently funny and you know you will be quoting it later on.
9. The first bite of a dessert and when you savor that taste for a while before you take the next bite.
10. Finding the sweet spot when you’re in bed where you feel so comfortable.
I am getting so giddy just remembering things that bring joy to me! Thank you for that Allison!
Take Care,
Aysha -

June 9th, 2008 at 1:41 pmGood afternoon, miss Allison.
I hope my moments of joy will cheer you up too. With this last post you made me think about them and now I’m smiling; thanks for making me remember them:
1. When I go to bed, knowing that tomorrow I won’t have to get up early.
2. Hear my parents talking and laughing.
3. Run to the living room when it’s time to watch ‘Lost’ with my mother.
4. Walk alone under the rain, listening to your favorite music.
5. Heard someone says something nice about me when I lest expect it.
6. Have the satisfaction of a good note after a lot of study.
7. When I stand next to the fire after being outside with the cold winter.
8. When someone (you know) hugs you without reason.
9. Watch Smallville at night (specially when there’re Clark/Chloe scenes).
10. Let your imagination fly while you’re hearing music or thinking about some programe or book scene. This point’s one of the best.
For now, it’s all I remember but I think this are my best joyful moments.
Good luck~

June 9th, 2008 at 2:04 pmEvery birthday party i have had has been amazing
I don’t like big parties, but small get togethers with close friends
Eventhough its only my 15th this year (june 15th:( ) birthdays seem to be getting less and less important to me.
Butttttt…. this year I’m going to have a party (get together) with my closest friends, who i moved away from last year.
It will probably be filled with ‘joy’?
as corny as that sounds.
I haven’t seen most of them in a year and im totally excited.
I might just have to film or take pictures to submit.
Its not the party that brings the joy for me… or the presents (I actually told most people that them actually being able to show up is better than any gift they could give me, which is true)
ohh and please please focus on anything but the negative, ive been trying to do so and reinvent myself in a way.
I’ve been focusing alot on the negative with my aunt visiting…
shes hurt me soo much in life, emotionally… and she expects me to make an effort to see her, although she isn’t making one herself.
My moms non existent emotional stability this year has also had a negative effect on me, and really it sucks.
For the last month, I’ve been trying to focus on the positive things in my life, such as my friends who have supported me through everything, especially this year.I’ve also tried to focus on religion and spending time at youth groups, where i get to just forget about my life outside.
You can’t stay stuck in the negative, it catches up with you in the end. You end up wondering why you didn’t move past something or why you worried about it in the first place, even for the smallest things.best wishes to you all

June 9th, 2008 at 2:14 pmHi Allison,
Glad you are well, speaking of joy, I’m currently watching (on tv only sadly) the Euro 2008 football hosted in Austria and Switzerland, even though England failed to qualify…but is a great showcase to show fans expressing dispair and JOY.
As above just trying to “find” joy everyday, in the little silly things in life and laughing at myself and life and spend my day trying to be a happier person …and hopefuly make others I encounter throughout my day happier as well.
My greatest joy this week has been watching Karen ALLEN and Harrison Ford return to the cinema as Marion and Indy in the latest Indiana Jones adventure.with my friends and family…pure Fun!…Part of me will never grow up I guess.
Have a great summer..and make sure you have fun as well,

June 9th, 2008 at 2:19 pmHey Allison!
When I think of joy, the first thing that comes to mind…
Two months ago I lost my job. My job title was part-time DJ for a local radio station, and I got paid accordingly… but in reality, I was in charge of making sure the station (and frequently, it’s sister station) ran smoothly for about 36 hours each week. It was a fun job for the most part, but after a year and a half I was ready to move on. The catch was… it’s a Christian radio station, and what I was doing there was more than just a job! It was a very real ministry to a lot of people. I couldn’t just quit! So I decided that, since God put me into that place, I would wait for him to take me out.
2 months ago, out of the blue, my program director informed me the station was changing music formats and my shows (christian rock), were going to have to go. I was shown to the door shortly after. I think most people would have been crushed, but I’m so joyful! It’s exactly what I had been praying for, and now I’m free to chase my dream of heading off to New Zealand.
Anyway, that’s my response to your MackEvent. Also, I have been trying so very hard to contact you about doing some promotional stuff for Juicy Peach, but have been getting shot down left and right. I wrote this as a thread in the “General Discussion” forums here on the site, and just recently copy/pasted it to a comment on your previous blog entry. Not to be redundant, but I really would like to speak with you about an article on the Peach to take with me to NZ come September. You should be able to find my email easily enough if you’re interested, but in the meantime, here’s what I wrote for you the other night once again:
Dear Allison,
I originally wrote this for the “General Discussion†forum on your website in hopes that you may, by some luck, find time to read my thoughts. David, the mod, advised I might be better off posting here. I truly hope you get a chance!
I’m sorry if this is a poor choice for posting in this particular forum— I’ve looked around, but didn’t really see a spot opportune for my thoughts. I thought I’d try here!
Allow me to start by introducing myself. My name is Chris… yes, my screen name is not creative. I live smack-dab in the middle of nowhere, Minnesota. I have dreams…. goals… ambitions. Hopes that drive me. One such hope is to create something. I don’t know what just yet, but I’m learning as I go. I believe we as people were created to create, among other things. I’ve developed a passion for art in many forms, whether in painting, photography, music, or especially film. I’m inspired…. I was going to say “easily†but I’m not sure that’s true. “Simply†would be better put. Movies, books, even just watching life in the world around me inspires. I’ve recently decided to pursue a Bachelor of the Arts, hoping to break into the film industry via writing and, perhaps, directing.
I’ve been a Smallville fan for some time now. I hope not to offend, but I enjoy Smallville not because of the writing, the plots, the effects, or even in many cases the performances. I enjoy it because I’m in love with the idea of a single person impacting the world in such a profound way, people call him “Superâ€. I’m in love with the story of Superman, which is a creative masterpiece, but more so I’m in love with the idea behind him.
Moving on.
Small details aside, I believe we are a lot alike. Having learned some about you via this website and, in no small part, your video blogs on YouTube, it seems like we think quite a bit alike. I daresay we would probably be friends if we knew each other. I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how circumstance seems to dictate who a person has the opportunity to befriend, and wondering if there could be a way to change circumstances and create opportunities for otherwise unreachable relationships.
You see, it’s not often I hear about someone and genuinely want to hold a conversation with them. I don’t know how to say that without sounding conceited, but it’s true. I find beauty and inspiration in the world, in people, and in creating things to inspire other people to create more things… but I haven’t had the opportunity to meet many other people who put much stock in these. The sad truth is, where I’m from the most popular trains of thought stem from fishing, hunting, and drinking.
You have inspired me, Allison. And I wished to share that with you. I very much wanted to sit down and hold a conversation with you, but as hard as I’ve tried, I can’t seem to change circumstance. When I learned of the Juicy Peach project of yours and Kristin’s, I thought it would be a perfect opportunity to sit down and talk. I’ve spent the last year and a half working for a radio corporation in MN, have done some free lance writing, and am taking a working holiday to New Zealand soon. I’ll be visiting the Rhema Broadcasting Group. It’s a Christian radio/tv corporation covering 97ish% of the country. With all those things in mind, and the fact that film is one of the fastest growing industries over in NZ, I hoped to use my skills in writing/broadcasting to spread the word on the Peach and snag an interview with you.
I knew it was a long shot, as I am no more and no less average than the next person in the eyes of a management agency. I offered head out west in exchange for an hour of your time, to do an article as well as make sure the story made it to Rhema, but your management team gave me the stiff-arm. Actually, it was just silence. I’ve also exchanged some emails with Tabitha, who was a great help, but after all is said and done… I guess I can’t change circumstance!
I don’t mean to sound as if I’m complaining or pointing fingers, please don’t view this that way. I suppose I should have expected the response I received, and it’s okay. But if it meant potentially gaining a friend that inspires, isn’t it worth it to try and just make it possible to meet? I felt that it was, and still do.
Thank you, Allison, for what you do. Not referring to acting (thanks for that too, however), but the way you care for and inspire someone you’ll probably never meet. There’s more to say, but I think this is a long enough forum post, and I do need to save at least a little something in case we bump into each other on the street some day. I truly hope we get that opportunity. Apologies for writing to you in this way, I would’ve much rather have handwritten…. but alas.
Thank you, Allison.

June 9th, 2008 at 2:24 pmAn after-thought on JOY:
Last Christmas I felt like being silly after work, and headed out to surprise my girlfriend. I enjoy doing random things to make people smile, even people I’ve never met. Watching the reactions of strangers’ is quite entertaining.
I wore a Santa hat. Nothing extreme, just a hat. I went to Taco Bell with it on.
Across the room from me was a young mother and her 2 very young and wild/loud little boys. It appeared she was having a bad night and the boys were not being easy on her. Seeing me walk in, both boys’ eyes just lit up and I could hear them whisper to their mom that “Santa’s over there!”
How wonderful to change someone’s night and make them smile simply by wearing a silly looking hat.

The Bible says : In His presence is fullness of joy.” And another that says ” The joy of the Lord is my strength. ” These talk about going to church , listening to what the preacher has to say. They also refer to praying, reading the Bible and finding an inner peace and encouragement – plus joy from God inside peoples souls.
I hope that this will help someone to be encouraged like I have been. Thanks for reading ! :- ) -

June 9th, 2008 at 9:06 pmI find joy in the morning.
I find joy by connecting with my inner self and knowing that the confidence i have built over the years has a positive effect on the people around me. How can you think of contributing to those around you if you cant start by investing time and effort in improving or accepting yourself. Follow the path that feels right for you and you will be surrounded by joy every step of the way .(in my opinion LOL)

June 9th, 2008 at 9:29 pmWow, joy.
The first thing that comes to mind is generally, because of my strong faith, “Jesus, Others, Yourself”
That, in my opinion is the best way to have complete joy.
Another thing that brings happiness and love into my heart is the theatre.
I am in a drama club at my school and am throughly involved in many aspects of it, such as, tech work, on stage performance, and sometimes just the clean up.
I love my drama teacher he is the heart and soul of our drama department along with the many active participants!
Maybe one day I’ll join you in your career as an amazing actress.
So, to conclude my ‘novel’ joy I think is a form of happiness and to quote Lex from Smallville.
“Happiness is just a feeling of euphoria, it’s when your brain goes into over dive which is why so many relationships fail after the honeymoon ends and reality sets in.”
I’m an addict!
Thanks for this wonderful awareness for the positive, love you Allison!

June 9th, 2008 at 11:18 pmHi Allison.
It is with joy that I read this new message.
The life is the fight against disorder (negative things).
The bad news always seem more numerous than good.
Just listen the news on television to achieve it.
You end up forgetting that if there are bad news is that there are also good. And soon we forget the past and often we do not take conscience.
Health is a good example. We should appreciate each day that we live healthy.
I have a joy to share with you. The unofficial french Allison Mack’site Chloe Sullivan Site has welcomed 150 000 visitors since it opened in 2003. More than 50 000 visitors during the past 7 months.
In Montreal, we have a festival Juste pour rire (Just for Laugh).
We have a dozen comedians who give performances (one man show)almost continuously. There are videos of just for laughs gags filmed in Montréal.

June 10th, 2008 at 5:28 amI turn 20 in August – it may seem completely bizaree but to me, leaving behind my teenage years is going to be a much bigger milestone than reaching legal age two years ago. Some of my friends can’t see why I am so excited to be leaving my teenage years behind, and I can’t lie and say that I have not thoroughly enjoyed my teenage years because if everything, they’ve provided me many of the best moments of my young life. On the other hand though, I have so very much to look forward to. I am like most young women – I dream of one day marrying and having a family of my own, and am hoping that the Heavenly Father has marriage and motherhood in stall for me. I am thoroughly looking forward to graduating university, fingers crossed, as part of the class of 2009. I am hoping to travel the world – I have my heart set on visiting my closest friend and ‘sister’, who lives in Canada – I even have my heart set on one day visiting Cloverdale. I want to see my friends marry, and if I am fortunate enough, I would love to be a bridesmaid. I am excited about the prospect of eventually learning to drive and getting my first part time job – a full time job will probably come before that at the rate I am moving at the moment LOL :p. Mostly, I looking forward to the fact that I’ve no doubt the Lord has so much more in store for me – I am excited about taking the journey to get to know my Heavenly Father even more so. What’s not to love about turning 20? I say ‘bring it on!’.
Allison, thanks – feels really, really good to be able to celebrate life – take comfort and happiness from those moments past and look forward to the future with absolute excitement and wonder. I must say that I really feel that I am learning so much from you, from reading your blogs, and I’ve little doubt you hear it all the time. I enjoy reading your blogs and am fascinated by your perspective and outloook on life – right now, I am aiming to understand these different outlooks in the hope of broadening my own outlook because I’d be lying if I say it actually wasn’t pretty narrow.
Also, to each of my friends – you know who you are: thanks so much for enriching my life and contributing so many wonderful moments to the unfolding story of my life. You are my world and I love each and every one of you, quirks and all – you bring out the very best in me.

June 10th, 2008 at 8:12 amJoy! Everytime I see my daughter’s face when she calls me from Japan on Skype. Or when I saw her again when she met us at the airport in Tokyo when we went for a visit. Or everytime I see my husband again after the workday is over. When I have a purring cat in my lap. When I see our garden in full bloom, especially when my snowball bush finally bloomed out into snowballs. Sitting on the front porch with my hubby and watching the neighborhood.

June 10th, 2008 at 10:18 pmJoy? Well I suppose the ways I find joy are much simpler than the average person. Seeing as I literally was locked in a basement for nine years I have learned to be content with the small pleasures of life. I find joy in my seven children. I find joy in seeing people’s confused faces when they see a twenty-five year old with so many children. I find joy in seeing rain instead of just hearing it, in seeing the sunrise and set. I find joy in laughter. I find joy when I wake up knowing that I won’t be hurt. I find joy in just about everything now that I know what it is like to have no joy or need for life.

June 11th, 2008 at 12:58 amAfter reading your post I went to take my dog outside and decided to go on a canoe ride. We had both been cooped up in the house for the better part of the day due to some thunderstorms. I flipped over the bright red canoe and my dog, Clover, jumped inside the boat. Despite hating water with a passion, she LOVES going for boat rides. I pushed the canoe out and jumped in at the last second, leaving behind solid ground in search of joy. It had been a week or so since anyone had used the canoe and I noticed that a fire-ant colony had started to make itself at home on the front bench. Fortunately, and amazingly enough they left both me and my dog alone. This was the first small joy I encountered on the boat ride. The clouds that had haunted the sky in the morning had mostly vanished, and the sun made the air warm and pleasant. I rowed to my favorite part of the lake, still on a quest to find joy. I felt a sudden urge to stop rowing and did so.
It was so still. There was absolutely no wind. The lake stretched out on either side like glass, a perfect blue sky vividly reflecting against this natural mirror. The hues seemed to brighten as I looked around. The grass more green, the sky more blue and the red of the canoe almost matching the ripening wild blackberries along the shore. The crickets and cicadas hummed away, creating a soothing rhythm as an occasional bird or frog joined in. I placed one of the paddles in the water and a ripple spread across the smooth lake, rolling along the glass and stopping when it reached the shore. And right there I realized I had found joy. And it surprised me in a way, that this was joy. It certainly wasn’t anything big or fancy, just an old red canoe and a lake and the sky. But it was just this feeling of being completely at peace. Feeling right. Feeling like this world was somehow more than I usually saw it. How it was so much more than I gave it credit for. That every little detail was so intricate, and so beautiful, and better even than all of that, that I fit and belonged amidst all of it. It’s nearly impossible to describe and reading back over my words don’t do the feeling justice, because it was such a big feeling, almost intoxicating, and it’s too much to convey. But there was so much joy in that little moment, that still and quiet moment out on the lake.
http://img411.imageshack.us/img411/9596/1006308zv7.jpg
Anywho, I should stop rambling and waxing eloquently before I get carried away, lol.
Above is a picture I took of the lake that day. Also, so great to hear that you haven’t dropped off the face of the earth! Have a great joy filled day/ week!

June 11th, 2008 at 3:29 amJoy…Joy is something I didn’t have a lot of growing up. My mother, my sister, they were my joy. My mother gave me the strength to be the man I am today. Because of the joy she gave me I can say that today I am a better person than I could have ever hoped to be.
I wish I could understand the love that a parent has for their child. But I have not been so blessed yet. I remember how she cried. She cried for days when I left home to join the military. She worried about the things I would see, the things I would do. And at first that made me very sad, to hurt my mother like that. But then I realized that she was just crying because she loved me. That love is what made me go. It’s what made me be the one to stand in between her and anyone who would ever hurt her.
I would like to share with all of you a picture of my beautiful mother.

May you all find joy in your lives.

June 11th, 2008 at 9:36 amJoy…oh there are so many things that give me joy everyday. I found thinsg very difficult a few months ago due to my work, and finding any happiness was a day to day struggle. I have since moved on and made changes, but more importantly I value the things that make me joyful.
There are so many things that make me smile, be joyful and thankful for.
Things that always me me appreicate life is when my god daughter (Julie aged 1) and her sister Daisy (almost 3) laugh. Nothing is more infectious thank a childs laugh. Whenever I have a really bad day I go and visit them, and everything in the world seems fine again.
Another thing that “sometimes” gives me joy is my football team (soccer). They are not the best team in the world but they are my team, and the whole family goes and supports them…and every now and again they get to a final. We may not win but the pride and joy you have supporting them is an amazing feeling. The video below shows my team scoring a goal in a Cup Final in March this year. I don’t think I have ever screamed so much in my life!
There are so MANY things I could list here but instead of doing that I am going to go appreciate them some more.

June 12th, 2008 at 7:50 pmWhat makes me happy?
well, spending time with my real friends, some well time spent with my family, traveling somewhere new and beautiful, petting my dog, working in something I enjoy, feeling inspired, reading a good book, writing my thoughts, watching awesome tv shows like smallville!!! and others too, I always pick the best ones, and everyweek night I tune in, it is very exciting waiting to know what is going to happen next, I also like to imagine stuff, being creative, listening to music while I imagine stuff too, or free dancing while I am alone, eating something really delicious makes me happy, cooking too!, I love swimming in my pool to relax in really hot days, and sometimes enjoying nature somewhere quiet makes me happy. Watching a good movie and reflectioning about it. Finishing classes, of course after all the hard work feeling compensated. huh, I take a lot of things for granted now that I notice, because almost everything makes me happy, but like anyone I have my down moments too, but if you really think about it, life really ain’t bad at all:) -
jujubrose Says:
June 13th, 2008 at 12:44 pmI was reading the Mackevent And can not help but respond. I wonder if anyone ever truly knows how they touch anothers life and when. I have long believed in angels. And in certain times in my life have been visited. The funny thing is it was never who I thought an angel would be. it was the exact opposite.
Courage = is to bare unflinchingly what heaven sends your way
A paradox is to love until it hurts for then their will be nothing but love
Yesterday afternoon I was walking with my rooster his name is lefty. As we were walking down the drive to go pick apricots a baby hummingbird flew down to the ground in front of me it was dying it was over 100 degrees. I picked it up. Took lefty back to his pen and brought the baby inside to tend it. This morning it was calling its momma and I saw her outside my kitchen window looking for her baby. I took the baby outside it sat on my finger and called its momma and who came momma. She fed her baby sitting right their on my finger.
The funny thing is this because your convictions did not make a difference today does not mean they wont tomorrow. Convictions are not right or wrong they are yours. How can you be wrong if what you are doing is good for others and humanity. Pick something to be passionate about like making a difference in one persons life maybe yours maybe a seniors maybe a childs maybe an animal rescue. Show your convictions wear them on your sleeve proudly. When people challenge them stand strong. Because the same people who challenge your convictions likely have none of their own.
You dont have to die to see you made a difference. Its after you die that they collect them all put them in a basket and show the world. The question is how many will be in your basket. Bill gates biggest accomplishments will be penned after he is dead. Lets just hope that is not any time soon.
joyful moments have to be sot out. I have to go outside and be with my children and grandchild and the rest of the world. I have to look all around me to see all that is their. The baby chickens or foals or all that is around me that I love. Surround yourself with the things you love then go out into them to enjoy them. Everyday is new their is always a different rose blooming and then of course their is the sun and the wind blowing in your hair.
Something real funny I came to this site looking for autograph.

June 14th, 2008 at 11:39 amwell i don’t really know where to start to be honest… i’m not sure if you will read this but i thought i would give it a go. I’m 18 on the 17th of this month and have recently found myself being ‘pushed in to the real world’. i’ve also been trying to find myself and all that stuff which all seems a bit cheesey, that was untill i started visiting this site and reading you’re thoughts. suddenly i felt amazing because it was like i was going through some of the same things as you (emotionally) and was really encouraged by the fact i didn’t feel as alone in my head (if that makes sence). I took some of the advice you gave about just concentrating on being the best person you can be and trying to makethe most of things. As i have carried on visiting this site i have found that my whole way of thinking has changed and i have found a massive amount of confidence from you that has helped me to be myself again and truly make the most of every day i have. It all sounds a bit soppy and everything because we don’t even know each other but i thought i should say it because even though there is a lot of negativity in everyone’s lives (esp. ur’s with you being in the ‘lime light’) i think you should be able to find some joy in the fact that you really do have the ability to make a difference in people’s lives and i have so much respect for you because you don’t ignore the potential you have to make a difference. The other thing i wanted to say is that i don’t think negativity is alwys a bad thing; i mean, sure it is when it’s right there infront of you, but i find that after it has happened and you realise that it’s in the past so the only thing you can do is accept it, it then makes the positive things in my life seem so much better and it gives me a whole new drive to make the most of every single second.
sorry if that was all long and drawn out (i had a case of word vomit) lol
hope you read this but i understand that youare really busy, and lets face it, sometimes it’s hard enough living your own life with out reading other peoples thought and problems (which i think is amazing that you put the effort into trying to)ash xox

June 15th, 2008 at 3:18 pmWow! There’s just so much that makes me feel joyful.
I teach 5-7 year olds and it’s a job I love, so that in itself makes me joyful. What else? – the children’s laughter; when a child finally ‘gets’ the concept they’ve been struggling with; the funny things they sometimes say; finishing writing reports (only six to go); sunsets; a vividly coloured rainbow; the fact I believe in a God who loves me unconditionally; spending time with family and friends; and, of course, watching Allison Mack in a TV show or film! This weekend I have seen all eight episodes of ‘Opposite Sex’ for the first time – sheer joy!Carol x

June 16th, 2008 at 6:42 amAllison,
This week my wife and I flew home to visit family. It was the first time back in over a year, due to some time I spent overseas. Family and home is always a great source of joy for both of us.Another unexpected fun moment was seeing someone famous (that would be you!) in the Memphis airport on your way to NY (we were in the next gate enJOYing some Edy’s ice cream cones). After the initial discussion of “is it really her?” with my wife, we decided not to interrupt your travels as crazy fans. I’ve always thought it would be very difficult to be famous and be bombarded by fans everywhere you go, so we decided to refrain from approaching you. But, we did want to tell you that we are big fans. Good luck with all of your endeavors.
Very Respectfully,

You speak of joy. The one thing that has brought me joy lately was being able to meet you at the Superman celebration on June 14th and having you sign my Smallville Crows pennant with both names and I was able to take some really nice photos of you. This is something I will always remember. On my myspace profile, wormtailkitty,
the two people I had put down that I would like most to meet was Debroah Norville and you. Some dreams really do come true. You are now my computer screensaver and background so even though the celebration is over you continue to bring me joy!!!!!!!! -

June 20th, 2008 at 12:58 pmHello,
This is the first time I have been on your site and I think it is great. There are many things that bring me joy, but on the bad days this video brings me up. The speech that Jim Valvano gave at the 1993 ESPYs is one of the most moving speeches I have ever heard or seen. Here is a man that is dying of brain cancer but instead of being somber and sad, he embraces what the future holds. He knew that he couldn’t be saved, but somebody else may, so he started the Jimmy V Foundation for cancer reasearch. I watch this speech every time I feel like the world is against me, and it makes me realize that it could be worse. Jimmy V passed away just a few months after giving this speech, but his words and actions will always be remembered.

July 1st, 2008 at 7:46 amI am a soldier deployed to Iraq. I recently returned from R&R in the states, and the most joy I’ve known in the last eight months was seeing my family and friends. There’s nothing like spending time with those that mean the most to you after eight months away, but even the little things brought great joy… seeing bright green grass again… seeing and smelling the ocean again, scuba diving and getting a mouthful of brackish water, only to realize that you’d missed even that…
It was great to be home again.
Even still, I love my job. There are joys in returning to a work that you love, even when you have to leave home to do it. Allison, I’m sure you know something about that, no? -

July 5th, 2008 at 5:08 pmHi Allison
I know this is not my video but I thought it would bring a little pleasure to your hectic life. I came across this little Jewel and it reminds me the joy you bring us all. In the desert, we learn the mystery of walking in joy in spite of hunger. We follow it’s lead. It guides us through each step of the dance and in the process we become the music.
I greatly suggest everyone who views this should dance along and you may too find the joy.

July 11th, 2008 at 2:15 pmMost of the time I am fairly apathetic, but something happened to me last month, that really flustered me. I am proud that under most circumstances I am fairly impassive. I was able to get off work and travel from St. Louis to Metropolis, Ill. to attend the 30th Annual Superman Celebration. This was my first year going to the celebration, and I was really excited that Allison Mack was going to be there. Watching Smallville in college I fell in love with the world of journalism, and since graduating in 2006, I am now a reporter/photographer. I returned from Metropolis with an amazing memory and an autographed photo of Allison. When I went up to the autograph table, all of my usual composure abandoned me in a split second. I could not stop shaking. After getting a photo of Allison that I had taken earlier in the day signed, I had the pleasure of asking Allison to sign one of my business cards. This was extremely important to me because she played such big part in inspiring me toward my career.
When I returned from Metropolis I wrote about my experiences in my bi-weekly column for the newspaper that I work for. In reading Allison Mack’s challenge to capture joy, I found that my column (without me realizing it) fit her challenge like a glove.
My column – usually Common Sense – Super Common Sense read:
“Last weekend I had the opportunity to travel to the 30th annual Superman Celebration in Metropolis, Illinois. It was a huge opportunity for me as I have always enjoyed the Superman mythology; some would say that it was the reason that I wanted to be a journalist. As a matter of fact, I would say that it was at least part of it.“Growing up, I used to pretend that I was the Man of Steel (as I assume most children did). I have the scars as proof of my unsuccessful attempts. The first Christopher Reeve Superman movie came out a few years before I was born, so it is safe to say that I have grown up in a world where there has always been a Superman.
“In my younger years, it was not uncommon to see me running around with a towel wrapped around my neck or jumping up and down on (and off) my bed. I vividly remember not thinking a second thought about a man who could fly at limitless speeds (enough to turn back time in Superman), but wondering at the ridiculousness of Lex Luthor (in Superman IV – The Quest for Peace) being able to cut a piece of Superman’s hair (that was holding up a one-ton weight) that he uses to clone Superman.
“As most childhood pursuits go, my enthusiasm for the Last Son of Krypton began to fade. It almost faded completely as I pushed through middle school, junior high and high school. After all, cartoons aren’t very “cool” in high school. However in college, where it seems childish pursuits are almost a norm, I began to watch a show called Smallville.
“Smallville was important to me in several ways. First, it made Superman cool enough for me to begin enjoying again. Secondly, it introduced the character of Chloe Sullivan. In the beginning of the show, Chloe is the editor of Smallville High School’s newspaper, The Torch. Allison Mack, the actress who portrays Chloe, displayed all of the good characteristics (persistence, a sense of right, and usually a fairly objective eye) of a modern journalist. Unlike various Lois Lanes in other Superman shows she also had a sort of softness to her. A quality that made her seem like a genuine person, not just a character to be played.
“It was Chloe that really brought me back into the Superman fold and inspired me to consider a career in journalism. I have always enjoyed reading books and watching movies about journalists and in college Chloe joined a list of my favorite journalists, (granted many of whom are fictitious).
“Every year, in Metropolis, Ill (a city that is smaller than Troy with a population of only 6,500) they host the annual Superman festival. This year the festival began on June 12 with the opening ceremonies and ended on June 15 with an attempt at the Guinness Book of World Records with the most people dressed as Superman. Fortunately for me I was able to talk my wife into going to the celebration for our anniversary, and fortunately for others I was not among those participating in the record attempt (I have a strict no-tights policy). Among the events that are usually included at the Superman Celebration are guest celebrities from various Superman shows that come and sign autographs for the fans. This years guests included Noel Neill (the original Lois Lane), Ned Beatty (Otis, Luthor’s sidekick, from the first Superman movie) and Allison Mack.
“Other than getting away from everything for a few days with my wife, meeting Allison Mack and getting her autograph was probably my favorite part of our trip to Metropolis.
“What started out as a childish pursuit (trying to be the Man of Steel) has since turned very adult (trying to be the mild-mannered reporter). For children who might be reading this, I urge you to never quit looking up to your heroes. Whether they might be firefighters, policemen (or policewomen), teachers, doctors, nurses or baseball players; never give up trying to be the person that you want to grow up to be. I may not be able to fly and be invincible, but I like to think that, in sharing Clark Kent’s job, I am still able to fight for “Truth, Justice, and the American Way.” For adults reading my column, encourage your children to believe that they can do anything and know that it is never too late to pursue some childishness yourself. My favorite author, C. S. Lewis, wrote, “When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up.” Maybe college students do have it all figured out. -

July 16th, 2008 at 8:06 pmI doubt you’ll even get this because it’s so far down and so long after you posted this, but it’s so inspiring that i had to be a part of it. I get the most joy not only when my family is sharing stories and s’mores around a fire or cuddling up under a blanket and dozing off to the sound of beach waves. But, I absolutely love it when you are having the worst day when everything is going wrong… and you smile. Honestly, I’ve tried it, that’s all it takes. Just remember all of the good times you had and all of the times ahead of you, and somehow, smiling at bad luck, and blowing away all of the negativity of this world is doable. Sorry for the novel, but joy comes from the smallest of things, just know, you have to look.
Mollie (13) *Houston, Texas*P.S. Thank you for the inspiration (and honestly, sorry about being cheesey and poetic…=). God bless you!

August 5th, 2008 at 7:21 pmHey Allison, I’m new here and I’m talking from Brazil… I hope it’s not too late to tell you that are a lot of people here who admire your work… I’m experiencing a moment of great difficulty. I am trained in physical therapy and specialized in acupuncture in three years and until now could not use any of them. My eight years engagement ended last week, my mother in law hated me and did everything to separate me from my fiancé (she succeeded at last), my biggest dream that is trying to go away from here to go work, I don’t know, there in the United States, Canada, Europe, wherever, is increasingly distant because I can not add money to buy a ticket and get go … Picture this… I am going through all this, but I have one thing in which I am supporting and it is on trust that everything will be good, that this is just another phase in my life and that in a moment I will receive my reward. Be happy for me is that, it’s being this, and I hope these words can help you and help people who are part of this site in any way. Thank you all and never abandon your ideals and dreams. Trust that everything is gonna be OK! Sorry about the terrible English, I totally need to practice it..
See you guys… Brazilian Beijos e Abraços…

August 11th, 2008 at 12:03 amHey Allli-Mack,
Well, even though I’m a little late in getting in on this one, I think my comments might relate to your blog on “Teenagers with Dirty Hands” as well, but of a different sort…Anyways…I’m learning that joy isn’t simply circumstantial, but it is completed in & through diverse & sometimes difficult situations. Joy seems to be more than a emotional feel-good, it actually transcends present circumstances, beyond my physical state of self desire or gratification. It reach at the very depths of who I am, mentally, physically, & spiritually. Though I go through brokeness joy seems to be cultivated when allowed to rise from the ashes, the heart-soil that has been worked & prepared to produce a bountiful harvest, a character trait called joy, that continues to grow & blossom in & through the good, the bad, and the ugly seasons of life. -

One small that that brings me joy is smiling and being silly. It’s free and fun. Here’s a short documented moment of me doing just that.

October 14th, 2008 at 10:09 pmI wish i would have came upon this website a LONG time ago…
This site brings me joy… but in life I think it is important to find joy in everything we do… although i forget this inner voice all the time… here is a story that I hope will bring someone some joy in a sad time…
When my grandmother passed away a few years past, I was asked to speak at the ulogy. I have always found a way to see the beauty in all the events of my life but this was one time where it was a true challengs. I had gone through many things but no words were coming. finally i decided to read some of my old things for inspiration and came across a poem i wrote when a friend had lost someone very close. It harnessed for me all that i was feeling at that moment.
“Legacy of Love”
Although you are no longer with us
you have left us with a reminder
that love is all around us
and that I can love myself
your thoughts will always carry
through song, through voice
through action, through me
i will never forget you
i could not imagine my life without
your caring heart inside
your cord of life was cut too short
for you could have done so much more
i can only hope to carry on
the things you have left behind
your legacy will always live
within everyone you touched
and i will always be
your loving friend in life.

December 30th, 2008 at 10:31 pmFunny you would suggest joy as a goal. I had a person tell me I lead a joyless existance. Upon reflection I agreed since I didn’t actually understand the meaning of the word joy.
So I went on a “Joy Quest”. Not that easy to find something you have no attachment to. So I looked around and discovered that ALL children can be joyful in the drop of a hat.
So I found joy… which will give life meaning.
The meaning of life (not anyones; all life) — there is where things start to get fun. And there is much joy in being/fulfilling the meaning of life.
Cheers for bringing it up — you make a lovely soul — thank you.
