Crisp by my friend Rob Gray

IT’S MY BIRTHDAY!

Holy shit I am 26. No longer in my early 20′s, no longer allowed to say “Oh I am just young, I didn’t know.” When do you officially grow up? When is it not ok to know something?

It’s funny, because I remember being a very little me and struggling to look over my bathroom counter at my reflection in the mirror, thinking to myself “I wonder what I am going to be like when I am 16″ and then being that defiant, angry and insatiably curious 16 year old thinking, “Hmmm, this is so not what I thought 16 was going to feel like, maybe it will all make sense at 21.”

But alas, at 21 I put off self-realization for another 4 years, thinking that 25 was the magic number. Now I am at 26 and I must say that I do believe this whole “magic number of enlightenment and calm” is all a total lie and hoax that I have convinced myself to believe to make everything seem a little more calm and controlled.

I am 26, I love to act, I am getting wrinkles on my forehead, my arms are still not as toned as I would like and I have a small pot belly. I love movies, plays, music, and art and I love to eat ice cream out of the carton.

My mom still has the best smell in the world, and cross legged on the ground is the most comfortable way to eat at a picnic. All things I thought I would “grow out of” when I hit that magical number. Thank god it doesn’t exist!

I love to play and fuck up and be all over the place.
I love feeling forever suprised by my life.
I will always want to learn new things and I will always be afraid of what I don’t know.

So here is to another spin around the sun.
I think it is going to be a good year my friends, a very good year.photo-5.jpgphoto-1.jpgphoto-2.jpgphoto-3.jpgphoto-4.jpg

    Happy Birthday Allison!

I remember having similar realizations at 26. That moment of “I’m not in my early twenties by any stretch” any more was kind of a weird one.

I just turned 31 last month, and that was the really odd one for me. Turning thirty wasn’t a big deal, but 31 hit me hard. Especially in light of being married for five years, and having 2 kids. That was when I really thought “Shouldn’t some sort of ‘growing up’ have happened by now?”

But then I realized that I still love comic books and superheroes, I still love to play games with my friends, and that I’ll never be 100% content with my physical fitness. So, life is still going on. And is still fun.

    Have a great day!

Happy Birthday, Allison! I must say, I’ll be 31 tomorrow and I don’t really feel like I’ve completely grown up. I can be responsible when I need to be, but I also remember my boss telling me last year that one of the characteristics that students enjoy about me is that I’m still a kid at heart. I’m an English teacher, and yet the word “dude” is still a part of my vocabulary from time to time. It all comes down to enjoying life.

    Stay young.

First off Happy Birthday again :) It’s funny you should ask the question “When do you officially grow up?” cos it’s something I’ve been thinking about lately. Even though Im 21 my mother is constantly telling me to “grow up” and it somehow makes me feel guilty for not acting a certain way. Why do we have to act a certain way when we reach a certain age?? Like you, I kept wondering what it was going to be like at a certain age and being disappointed when I reached it and it wasn’t what I expected to be. I’m not afraid to admit that my inner child is still alive – my bed is still covered in cuddly toys and I stilll love to act like a fool from time to time. There’s nothing wrong with these things and I don’t ever want to lose some of it.

I have tried to take the attitude that I am who I am and people can either accept it or not. We shouldnt be afraid of what we don’t know. There is nothing wrong with not knowing everything. Not knowing means we are still growing and learning. I think a quote that captures this is “The day you stop learning is the day you die” meaning we never stop.

    Hugs :)

I’m 27 years old and I remember 25 like it was yesterday. I thought life as I knew it was over. LOL. All I could keep telling myself, was OMG I’m halfway to 50. So glad that’s over with. Now I’m 27 and re-evaluating my life and what I have and haven’t done and all I can think is how young I still am and how far I still have to go. But that’s okay. I have so many great years ahead of me and can’t wait to get wherever it is I am going, not matter what ups and downs I go through on the way, it’s all worth it in the end.
Ahhhhh….wrinkles on the forehead…..me to. One thing I’m not overly happy about I admit. :) I guess I’ll just keep telling myself it add character. Ya…right. lol

    Happy birthday!!!

I love birthdays. I am very nostalgic, and love to reminisce about the year behind me. Oddly, when I turned 28, I suddenly felt taller, even though I stopped growing when I was 16. I turned 30 in January, and decided that this is the official start of the best chapter of my life…luckily, I was right, and it has been. At any age, there are ups and downs, but just make the most of every minute you have…growing older isn’t a guarantee…it’s a gift. The older I get, the more I play because life is too short to try to act like a “grown up” all the time!

Learn to love your wrinkles…they mark where the smiles have been. You’ve got a smile that’s bright enough to light up half the world, so don’t let fear of a few wrinkles keep you from sharing it.

PS–This is wierd, but ever since I was a teenager, I wanted to be 36…almost there! And I found a little scrapbook that I made in kindergarten. There’s a page that says, “My Three Wishes” One of my wishes was to be 17, so I guess I’ve always had a desire to age.

There are some special birthdays, like the you-can-drink-now, you- can-drive-now or the you-can-vote-now-birthday, but that’s just legal stuff. I never feel more grown up after a birthday… maybe older, but not more grown up.

Hey, Allison. Just saying hello again as a frequent lurker / occasional poster. I must say that with all the negativity in this world today, I find your web site a place of soothing calm for me. Maybe that’s a bit overly-dramatic, but honestly, it’s the truth. All I ever hear about these days is doom and gloom. Higher energy costs, the slumping economy, how everyone hates Bush and America, etc. Two days ago, I even heard someone on the radio talking about how Katrina and the fires in California, the Tsunami in 2004, etc. were all because the world has turned from God and how we’re being judged and how it’s going to get worse and worse each year because we’re so immoral, blah blah blah. Well, you know something, I don’t share in any of these beliefs. I think the world is what you make of it. Your focus is what determines your reality, and I choose to focus on the good in this world. I choose to believe that everything is going to be okay because I have that right. I can choose to believe the best or the worst about anything in life, and reading your words here show me that I’m not alone. You never say anything about how terrible things seem or how pessimistic you are about the future. It’s always the opposite of that, and it’s positively inspiring. I am truly sad that I can’t get over here more often to thank you for being someone in the spotlight who can share this outlook with her fans in the world. People need to see this. People need to see someone like you who is living her life, loving her life, and choosing to see the greatness in what and who she is, warts and all. I love how your pessimism, if it can be called that, manifests itself only as it pertains to your incessant desire to improve yourself, to understand yourself, and to know who you are. We should all be striving for that goal, but we’ve all gotten so wrapped up in pursuing so many less important things that we have forgotten our humanity and have all-but replaced it with troubled hearts and minds. Thank you so very much for being an example of someone who has so obviously not let stardom go to her head. I just watched the video of the complete Comic-Con session which is over at operation save Clark Kent (and it was great to see that camera phone footage from another angle by the way). I love how that fan asked for your name plate and you were so understanding and kind to sign it without question. Anyway, I just wanted to tell you how much I love reading this space and love your introspective nature. Thank you for being so open with those of us who see the actress and allowing us to see the person. From what you’ve demonstrated here, if I had to choose one to know, I’d take the latter without hesitation.

I experienced a ‘flip’ in my lifespan. I grew up where people went through stages of development in a controlled way – apprentice, journeyman, …. Your ideas couldn’t be taken seriously until you got older and experienced. So I got older and there was a shift in attitude. Experienced meant “prejudiced.” Old meant slow. There was a sudden tendency to look for guidance from young, dynamic people who wouldn’t be held back from exploring the world afresh due to experiences that were obsolete in the dawning of a new age. I went from being too young to give input to too old. I entered the world of ageist prejudice.

Now I had the experience to know when the light at the end of the tunnel was another train heading towards me, but my experiences weren’t trusted because of my age and I had to move towards that oncoming light like a good soldier. So, for sanity’s sake, I started finding other outlets for my creativity. So, about 5 years ago when I was 46, I got an e-mail from someone and they said, “Your stories are simply amazing. I can’t get enough of them. They always surprise me and make me think. I have a hard time getting them out of my mind.” I e-mailed a thank you to the person. They wrote back and were so thrilled that someone as talented as I was would take the time to answer their e-mail. Then the person asked my age. I replied that I never have hidden my identity or age online. That my screen name is my real name and the 1956 is my birth year. The person sent back an e-mail telling me how disgusting it was that a person my age would write fan fictions – that no one over the age of 26 should write anything but non-fiction. Both the initial praise and the flip in attitude shocked the heck out of me. Then I started reading about how Emmy winning writers for shows such as “MASH” and “Saturday Night Live” couldn’t get work because Hollywood wanted young writers. If you had a gray hair or a wrinkle, you couldn’t pitch. It used to be that the old timers were the ones that told the stories around the fireplace. A lifetime of experiences gave them the material and the lifetime of telling tales and getting people’s reactions taught them the pace and style of effectively telling a story. J. R. R. Tolkien didn’t finish “The Hobbit” until he was 45 and “The Lord of the Rings” until he was 62. I’m so glad the world didn’t consider him “washed up” at 27. And I certainly hope that ageist attitudes in regards to artists and creativity moves to some middle ground.

Happy Birthday Allison, I hope you enjoy your day!

With regards to, “When do you officially grow up?”

    Hopefully, never!

I turned 26 a very long time ago and I still haven’t grown up. I play and mess about at every available opportunity, and it is my firm belief that everybody should do the same. After all, we are all still children when compared to the infinite realism of the universe. The day that my childhood ends will be the day that I am buried in a box with my feet pointing east! Hopefully that day will be a long way off for all of us.

With regards to, “When is it not ok to know something?”

    When you know too much!

“The one who has learned everything life has to offer, no longer experiences the drive to live!”

I hope that you and everybody else who has taken the time to wish you a Happy Birthday will always feel the drive to live.

Life was meant to be lived, all you need is trust and a little pixie dust and you too can live your childhood forever!

    Happy Birthday

First I want to wish you a Happy 26th!
Secondly even though I am 6 years younger I can understand the confusion and anxiety of getting older. What constitutes growing up? We all know age is a number so what makes us mature? I am being forced to do so when I see people around me get on with their lives and embark on new chapters and journeys. People I once considered much younger than me are suddenly going off to college while people not much older than myself are becoming professionals and even getting married.

Thanks for reading this jumble of thoughts.

    First of,

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY BELLA!

I know exactly what you mean when you say you thought you knew what it’d feel like at this or that age. I used to think that:

    16: Driver’s License: You’re parents independant: You’re cool, free
18: Majority (Quebec hehe) Alcohol, Games, ADULT

Now, I’m 18 so here’s how I see the next ones:

20: wow, new decade, everything becomes serious
    21: yay!, major everywhere!
25: My lucky year…hum, what is it gonna look like..?

As ridiculous as it sounds, I really thought that the 20s were a really serious and a don’t goof around moment…until I actually started to have friends and work with people in their 20s and realize they’re having as much or even more fun as I am and that really showed me that I was wrong all along.

All-year long, I’ve been having this conversation with my 19 year-old friend who kept saying that she hated being 19, a meaningless age for her…

so yes, you are entering in your late 20s…ahah but as you may know, 1 more year of experience and knowledge and fun and discovery is a priceless gift that we aquire throught the years.

ahah wrinkles….well, that’s experience and wisdom showing, white hair too…;P hihi

Enjoy yourself and take care will ya!

As many people have posted this aswell ‘what is that magic number?’ or ‘when do you officially grow up?’ lets hope that it really is never because i surely want to believe that it is.

Coming from an English fan (I live in the UK), It’s nice to see people such as yourself that can inspire so many others to do great things or to just be a better person as a whole and it truly means alot. With all that goes on in the world today its so nice to see that there are still those that care.
Each of you’re posts are honest and that is something that i especially respect about you. So thank you for your thoughts and commitments these quite clearly show.

Finally good luck with blowing out 26 candles or doing a beer jug chug or whatever you do over there.

    Hello Birthday girl!!!

I will be hitting the big 3-0 in a few months, I can say that i have been there as far as thinking that I would hit a certain age and everything would change or that I would have this sudden epiphany about life….HA HA HA!!!! I can say that I am certainly not were I thought I would be, but I think that happens to most. I think that life is an ever changing evolution and process, you never know whats around the corner. As they say you can plan a pretty picnic but you can’t contol the weather!!

I don’t think there is an age where someone “officially” grows up. I think we all hold on to things that make us secure and comforted from our childhood. Then there are things we do explore and discover with age. I think real growth has to do with your mental, emotional and spiritual levels

It’s how well you handle upsetting situations, pressuring demands or life changing decisions. Realistically, a person can be become better at handling challenging situations at any age.

Twenty six; that’s a good age to be. Hope everything goes well for you.

*laughs* Your typical chronological milestones veered from the norm when you became gainfully employed at an age when for many, the biggest ambition was to not miss Saturday Morning Cartoons!

And now you have transitioned into a talented woman. Who is still
    gainfully employed!

Not many have been able to do that.

In regards to being an adult: It is not a magic number.

Life is about motivations, and thought, and reasoning and gaining understanding and obtaining and living truths. Finding knowledge and applying wisdom. Learning to love.

And using what you have to help make the world and the people in it…better.

And to find other like-minded people so it all doesn’t become a burden and is is not overbearing.

But a person can do all of this at a young age and get better at it as they get older.

*smiles* Just like you and your talents and abilities.

It is just more refined. Not as many answers need to be looked for because you have them at hand…having found them already.

But there will always be more to find.

Happy Birthday Allison…and long live your search.

    Happy Birthday Allison!

I wish you to have an excellent 27th year on this small and beautiful planet, as happy, interesting, exiting,… than the 26th was for you.

I think many people (and children) want to know how it feels to be X years old (often a decade or some “legal” ages like majority) and they are so focused on it that sometimes they don’t live and enjoy the present.
Just remember that your real age is in your head, it is not a date (nor a number) that changes everything in your mind. You know the classical question: “How do you feel now you’re X years old?”. I use to answer: “not older than yesterday!”
I’m 20 in 2 days (on 31th) and I feel: “Ok, this is a new decade, with new goals, nothing more, nothing less”
But, I agree when my parents say: Time is running fast.
Conclusion: Enjoy the life as it comes, and make what you can to make the life coming as you wish it comes (as far as possible).

    Sam

Twenty Six, wow, I’ve got twenty nine and a half years on you, wait till you get up to my age, I’m over the hill with one foot in the fucking grave, and my “Pot” belly makes me look like I’m in my fourth trimester. (I’m not fat, just have a gut, and not form fermented camel urine.)

My feet have hurt for over fourteen years, in the last three or four years they’re swollen, numb and hurt worst, in the last year, they hurt to the point I have a hard time walking. I have constant pain in my right side, burning, aching stabbing, always there..

Nothing I can do, no insurance, too poor for any medical help, too late, if I did find a quack to see, the only thing they could do is carve me open like a thanks giving turkey, pull out the plumbing then say.

    You’re fucked!

I have no desire to die like my mom did, the quacks carved her open, looked inside, said “You’re fucked” then kept her whacked up on morphine for a week till she quit.

Michael Moore is right, health care down here sux!

Being the kill joy I am, I will again say, Life sux then you die!

What really pisses me off is I see people who abuse their bodies with drugs and alcohol, wait a minute, that is a drug, and they’re in better shape than I am. Guess living a “Clean” life and eating almost healthy is another one of the lies.

You too can look forward to old age with nothing but pain and suffering just like everybody else.

You never confirmed a mailing address for your fans to send you priceless stuff.

    Wani.

BTW, if I’m too annoying, just tell me to fuck off, I will go away.

    Happy Birthday Allison!

But dude, seriously, I can’t freakin’ believe I’m going to be turning 26 myself in less than a month. Thanks for the reminder! ;) I still remember being 15 just the other day and vividly can recall contemplating the idea of turning 16 as though it was officially marked by some unseen milestone into maturity. Ha. Would I magically look and feel different? Would I awake with this abrupt new perspective on life and how I viewed myself? Ten years later, I’m still trying to figure it out all. It’s like an on going non-stop journey into the unknown. I don’t think I’ll ever truly figure it all out. And that’s o.k.

Though I do like to believe we just follow our own path in life. There isn’t any official blue print to follow. There is no wrong or right measure of what we should be brought up and pressured to feel, to think, at any given moment in our life simply because of the particular generation we so happened to be born into or the society that dictates the direction we should follow and tells us, because they say it’s so. You live once, you try to live in the moment. Embrace all your negative and positive attributes, look within yourself, know yourself, And try not to dwell on regrets or the negativity. Surround yourself with inspiration and to hell with the limitations. Have fun!

“Youth is happy because it has the capacity to see beauty. Anyone who keeps the ability to see beauty never grows old.”
That’s what Kafka said and I think he’s right about that. Our age should be only a number, that clarified how much valuable time we were already allowed to spend on this earth. It should not be a increasing measure that let us lose our curiosity, light heartedness and lust for life.

Happy Birthday :) Someone told me once that life is too short to be serious all the time, so take as many chances as you can to just let it all go and have fun with everything you do. I’ve also be told that nobody has all the answers, but don’t let that stop you from asking the questions. I really try to leave by those words.

I’m not sure if I ever had any preconceptions or thoughts about how I was going to be when I “grew up”, but I must say that at 25, I’m completely happy with where I am at the moment. I still love so many of the things I did when I was a kid; my mom says it’s almost eery sometimes, but I think it’s just me. Looking back on home videos and pictures of me when I was little is almost the same as the pictures and videos I have of more recent times. In all of them, I’m laughing, joking, singing, acting out my favorite movies and musicals, speaking in every accent imaginable, and simply having a great time. So I guess looking back on things, I’m sure I’ve changed and grown, but so many of the I thought I would eventually “grow out of” still bring such joy to my life.

Beauty and the Beast is still my favorite movie of all time, and I can still quote every single word from it just like I could when I was 9.

My favorite musicals and music from when I was little (Annie, Wizard of Oz, and Sound of Music) still put a big huge goofy grin on my face, and of course, I sing along at the top of my lungs.

I sit cross legged, now matter where I am. It’s just simply so comfortable and it drives the people around me crazy. They always tell me that’s how kindergartners sit…THANK YOU KINDERGARTEN! haha

There are very few things that make me happier than hanging out with my younger cousins, playing endless games of hide and seek, putting on concerts and plays, playing board games, etc.

I love music more now than I did when I was 9 years old, practicing on my “stage” downstairs in the basement.

And so many more things that I can’t even think of at the moment. But it’s so fun to sit back and think on all of these things. It makes me want to sit down and make a collage of myself through the years, just so I can see the differences and similarites.

Hope you have a wonderful birthday :)

    but here it goes….
I am the stubborn defiant teen… it seems inevitable to pass this stage in life :)
I still have more years of it (hopefuly)
I find myself growing up and realizing that I’ve never really gotten the chance to be a kid unless I really tried. and damnit im growing up to fast!
the only things I think that set me apart from my already aging soul… are my bickering with my brother and constant need for wanting to prove someone wrong.
often I still want my mom… but realize that sometimes its a little to late for her support. i’ve already been around for almost half of her life and it seems too complicated to think about what I ned from her sometimes. sure we grow out of needing that support physicaly someday (hopefuly).. but mentally do we? I know.. my mom at 33 now… still hasn’t grown out of anything…. haha wow sorry for this response your blog just got me thinking ;)

First of all…Happy Birthday! I read your blog and laughed out loud! I have so been there.

I turned 31 on July 13th. My favorite thing was when the youth I work with at church had this–you turned 31?–shock and awe moment followed by –but you don’t act 31–or (my favorite) I thought you were supposed to have wrinkles by 31? As if I were old as dirt.

How am I supposed to act? I decided a long time ago to follow the advice of one of wisest women I’ve ever met–my great aunt. She and my mom were having a conversation when I was younger about ladies who lived near her who were so depressingly old. She told my mom “I’ll never be an old lady like them” and then she realized “Wait, we’re all the same age”. She was 85 at the time and refused to be pigeonholed by her age. If my beloved great aunt could be young at 85, why can’t I now?

I’ve learned that life has its good days and bad. Nobody has it all together all the time. The only thing I can control is myself and my attitude. So I say life is better with ice cream out of a carton, cartoons on a Saturday morning, laughing until you cry and a good eye cream for the laugh lines you’ve earned. :)

I think you’re grown up when you are in that phase in life where you want to buy a Porsche. But what do I know? I’m only 19. But the way I see life doesn’t really have to do with how old you are, but the different phases in life. When you are about to start college, when you find someone you really love, marriage, have kids etc. I find this to work MUCH better than to say ”When I’m that age I will be”. So just say ”When that phase/event happens I will be”

But then again I never was a 14 year old kid that said, man when I’m 19 I will be really old. And thats just the way I like it to be.

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

I love your work and you’re a real inspiration for me! Your love for art which is exactly what I love. The plays and the theatre and all that!! You’ve so much ahead of you and I can’t wait for whats next for you!

Now to the blog. I’m sorry for this response but your blog just really got me thinking! lol

Honestly, I’m only 15 and I still have a lot ahead and well my head is in that teen fog you know? The questions of “What are you going to do with your life?” or “What college are you going to?” and passing through those insecurities of my body and all of that crap. With every passing year I get a little more scared and excited. Excited because im getting older and I’m maturing and learning with my every experience and that with every step I take I’m getting closer to THAT goal. The goal that I’ve seen every one fulfilling. The goal of success and feeling happy of where you are and fulfilling your dream and honestly I can’t wait until I get there!! But yet I’m also scared because that means that I’m leaving behind being that little girl who used to imitate what she saw in the tv and acted little plays for her family in the living room. I find really funny that when you were sixteen you were wondering of how you’ll be when 21 cause that is exactly what I’m feeling!

I love growing up but yet I hate it because I don’t want to leave my childhood behind. I guess that why they call it adolescence! That’s why when you put up that quote “life is a journey… I just couldn’t help but wonder how my journey was going to be like? or When i was going to get to that destination? and if I do what will be waiting for me there? I’m stuck like I want to know but at the same time i don’t want to know.

In the end, I just want someone to remember me when I’m gone. That My journey in this world actually did some good and helped change someone.

OK…. I’m back. lol Again sorry for this but you really really got me thinking! lol

This morning I opened my eyes and thought, “Today is Allison’s birthday!”, which is an oddity in itself, as things like this normally escape my memory. But I guess it makes perfect sense, seeing as you do so much to truly inspire me and make me smile so often. I can’t thank you enough, and wish you the best of everything on this special day.

It’s not the age Allison, it’s the mileage!

Age is more of a mental thing to me. I am 37 and other than some grey hairs and some life experiences that bring wisdom, I don’t really feel any different than when I was 21.
I know people who are in their early 20′s and act like they are 60 and I know people who are in their 40′s who act like they are 20. It’s all perception.
Granted there will come a time when your body will start feeling it’s age but as long as you are happy and aware and not arrogant, you will always be able to be young at heart.

Everyone sing: “I don’t wanna grow up, I’m a Toys R Us kid!”

I even act whiny and pout sometimes when I don’t get my way. I’ve even been told to grow up! Remember 26 is JUST A NUMBER, kid!! Remember you are as young as you feel!

Well, one thing I’d like to do, now that I just watched your video blog, is to send some birthday cookies to you! I have now figured out two special ingredients for those cookies that you would really appreciate. Drop me a line to let me know where to ship them to.

but im 19 now and i cant believe how quick time passes i mean i’m 20 in november and i work with children so looking after children brings back so many memories its so weird also if i had the chance i would be a child again… … i notice as u get older everything seems to get more time consuming say like the more responsibilities u get the more stressed u get as reguards to wrinkles lol WE ALL GET THEM THANK GOODNESS LOL… were no aliens

ok i can also agree with the ice cream… i love double mint and fudge fresh from a tub lol especially when watching a disney movie… especially when watching WALL-E LOL

but i sometimes wish my life away say like id rather be older then younger and I WISH WE COULD TIME TRAVEL i really do cos u can have so many expectations of life but u might not even do half of what u wanted to by fulfilling other dreams… (i make life sound complicated) =P

i mean you seem to have achieved alot in your life and you’ve set a role model for people to actually look upto you have a great sorted personality and its refreshing to see that your far from been fake i bet all the people on this site would agree with me JUST LOOK AT ALL THE COMMENTS U GET… positive ones at that…

When SV is canceled, what ever you do, stay in Canaaaaddddddda, up there you have affordable if not free health care.

Up there when you get sick you don’t have to take a second, third or fourth mortgage on your house to pay off the hospital and doctor, or just go without any health care till you die.

The economy there is much stronger than down here and I’m sure the cost of living isn’t as ridiculous as it is down here in this cesspool of political and corporate corruption.

    Dear Miss Allison Mack,

Good afternoon and most of all, Happy Birthday to you my friend. Today is a little bit particular for you so have a lot of fun and keep smiling. Actually, i don’t know Smallville very well but one thing for certain i know how a sensitive, interesting and authentic personn you are. Concerning your work, i truly think that you are a pretty excellent actress because of the sincerity you developed, step by step, on your web site. I think that the best qualities of an actor would be a very high level of the life’s comprehension, a very deep, good and well balanced taste, the experience of happiness and adversity, the presence of mind, the karisma, the education and many many more other things. Then an actor is above all an human being. That’s a very important fact. Dear Miss Mack, you showed on this blog how an interesting and interested personn you are. You’ve got this colourful heart and soul. You are open minded and that’s always a big peasure to see it. Today you’re just 26, you are at the very beginning of your life. But all in all, we have to remember that both soul and mind are ageless. And finally, you’re great because you are able to use your wonderful potential as a way of being the true Allison Mack as sweet, lovely, interesting, and most of all authentic as you are. So, remember my friend, keep your deep love inside of yourself always then take deep breathes with your enlightenment and just keep as this wonderful golden mountain on Earth.

All the best wishes for you,
    My regard to Tabby,

I hope to see you next time,
    Your friend always,

    Birthday greetings from London!!!! :)

A friend of mine told me to check out your blog because apparently you philosophise as much as I do….I think it’s great stuff and I’m loving your take on life.

…about the age thing…I’ll tell you what my manager told me the other day: ‘you may be 22 and you might have wisdom beyond your years, but sometimes your behaviour leads me to believe there’s a struggle between your inner 5-year old and your inner Buddha – it’s rather disturbing, but oddly fascinating.’

Age is only a number that stops us from doing the things we really want and saying what we really feel because we’re supposed to act with decorum the older. Yeah, right…

Don’t play by the rules, do what makes YOU happy and smile every chance you get – it;s the key to a long life….or something like that.

Have an awesome birthday – here’s to another year of self discovery!! xox

    Hey Allison happy birthday :)
I hope all your wish come true you deserve it.
Your a great person sometimes you remind me of
my self, It’s like sometimes you read my mind it’s
    pretty funny how it happens.
As to what you said about the magical number
“Growing old is mandatory; growing up is optional.”
    :) haha, I’m 15 currently and yes!!! I’m a bit freaked out
(more like a whole bunch.) about what’s going to happen in
3 years when I become 18. For the pass weeks you’ve been
talking about Balance and things about what you like doing and you realized acting was it.
I really have a very big internist in acting it’s been my interest seen’s for ever. But I hate to say it but I question my self if weather I’m going to make it.

(You might be asking yourself why ?)
Well this past freshmen year I put my
self on the spot and decided to join theater
even if it scared the crap out of me I was
going to do this. So okay I was there and
then they told I was going to be Juliet the
play was Rome & Juliet of course I had a great time.
But then along comes this girl and asks me what I wanted to be
when I grow up and I reply “I want to be an actress” she laughed at
me and walked away. I got to say that really broke my heart I didn’t really understand why
at that moment seen’s I’ve always been independent even with my handicap problems
I really have to thank my mother and my friends for not making me feel deferent from
everyone else even if my legs don’t work like there’s, I might not be able to run as I
would wish or just simply walk but I really know my passion for acting but I ask myself if
wether I have a chance do to what I can’t see myself not doing “Acting!”.
Truthfully I’m afraid of rejection just because my legs, Afraid of not being
    able to reach my goals.

    Okay back to “magical number”
Right now I just realised it’s not
going to change who I em thanks to you I’m realizing how
age doesn’t really matter at all. And I’m ready to be an
    age.

    P.S. Allison I’m a big fan of yours! :)
    tehehe.
    Omg great pictures!
I have to tell you it made my day!
    lol

If you’d never been born well then what would you do?
If you’d never been born well then what would you be?
You MIGHT be a fish! Or a toad in a tree!
You might be a doorknob! Or three baked potatoes!
You might be a bag full of hard green tomatoes.
Or worse than all that… why you might be a wasn’t!
A wasn’t has no fun at all. No he doesn’t.
    A wasn’t just isn’t. He just isn’t present.
But you… You ARE YOU! Now isn’t that pleasant?

Today you are you! That is truer than true!
There is no one alive who is you-er than you!
Shout loud, “I am lucky to be what I am!
Thank goodness I’m not just a clam or a ham
Or a dusty old jar of sour gooseberry jam!
I am what I am! That’s a great thing to be!
If I say so myself, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!”

heeheehee I’m 27 and hope to NEVER outgrow Dr. Suess.

Happy Birthday Allison! I agree with what you and others on here have been writing. There is no magical number. I just turned 30 this year and I thought, oh my god, I have to finally start acting like a grown up and stop fucking up so much. Act like an adult. It’s not true. I believe everyone should learn from their experiences but ultimately should just be themselves. Keep learning, keep enjoying, and just do what you think is right. Life is all about the experience and I believe we should all try to get the most out of every moment and not get hung up on not making mistakes. There is a quote that I love and I believe I also saw it here on your website. It is: “Life is not the number of breaths you take but the number of moments that take your breath away.” Anyway, enough with the deep thinking today. I hope you have a wonderful day and many, many more. Happy Birthday!

Makes me think you are even closer to that enlightenment and calm you have been looking for :)

Happy birthday Ms. Mack!! And just to let you know, I don’t believe we ever grow up. Ever. I’m at that first magical age – 16 – and I still watch and LOVE Disney, squeal like a little girl when I get excited, sit curled up into a ball in my desk at school, hold my dad’s hand in parking lots, color in coloring books, annoy the heck out of my older brother, and love mac’n'cheese. Being young is something you never have to grow out of. =D Thank goodness!! Happy birthday again!!

Now I am at 26 and I must say that I do believe this whole “magic number of enlightenment and calm” is all a total lie and hoax that I have convinced myself to believe to make everything seem a little more calm and controlled.”

Ha-ha!! That is so funny, I too used to think there was this “magic age” a person turned and – all of a sudden – they would be ‘a grown up’. Then we’d know everything we were supposed to, and act the right way all the time. Being the senior here (I’ve got two years on you Allison ;P), I can say that I’ve finally learned that there is no “magic age” when a person realizes that they’re grown-up (or as we put it growing up, ‘a grown-up’). Still, isn’t it funny though, that as we age – our definiton of what “old” is seems to change??!!!! LOL!!!

Anyhow, many happy returns to you on your special day!!!

Hey Allison……HAPPY BIRTHDAY! You do not have wrinkles! Your the most gorgeous girl I’ve ever seen. Do not be defined by your age. I hate it when people tell you to act your age when you’re just having fun. Be immature, do whatever the hell you want! :P Follow your dreams and pursue your goals because you have the full capacity to do it! I remember watching the movie you were in at a young age : Honey, we shrunk ourselves. I was like, that girl look so familiar, she’s Allison Mack from Smallville! Then after the movie I looked through the credits to see if it was you or not and I prooved myself right! Anyways thought I should share that. You seem to be having fun in your pictures! Same faces you make on the Smallville Gag Reel! I can relate to you so much because we share some of the same passions. I love to act and I enjoy watching plays! Me and my friend always rent movies every weekend! You truly inspire me. Since I was young, I’ve always wondered what it would be like to be 15 or 16, and I think our knowledge and questions gradually grow and develop with us so we don’t find ourselves looking at it in that way. Thinking, it’s no biggy being fifteen or how did I find that exciting? Anyhow, trying not to make this long…hehe, I believe it will be another good year with you leading us into infinty and beyond. But serioulsy, thank you for having made this blog and sharing your personal stories and feelings with us. I can’t feel any more closer to you then I am. So I send you my happiness and I hope you have a wonderful day. Love and peace, Brittany

    Happy Birthday Allison,

I hope you have an amazingly fun filled, exciting, and some what relaxing 26th birthday. May the following year be as wonderful and have as many exciting adventures and challeges for you as you have had this past year. May your heart, soul, and mind still reach out to all of us who admire, respect, and look up to you. Your words, your thoughts, and your emotions are felt by, listened to, and encouraged by many. Your are the type woman who all men and women of all ages can look up to and be admired by. Your teachings, your ways, and the examples you set for others is rare and wonderful and will be lengendary. Your are a role model for all those who care to listen and learn from you. The words you speak here and the things you talk about and teach us show great wisdom and harmony of life in one who is so young and beautiful. And your beauty, especially those soft gentle gazing eyes and piercing sweet white smile will rival all the rest for many years to come. And may your beauty still drive all your male fans crazy and inspire artists to create beauty in the name of your beauty like you have done for me. Your an inspiration to us all and I hope you never change who you really are. You are a role model to me and I hope one day I get the chance to meet you and get to know the real you and maybe make a new friend. I can’t wait to see you in season 8 of Smallville and I hope everything with your movie “Alice and Huck” is going really well to, I can’t wait to see them both. I do have a question though are you planning on doing any type of Charity thing for you Birthday like you usually do, with prizes like autographed photos like last year. I also hope that you keep moving forward with the whole singing thing your an amazing singer. Maybe you should think about making a CD with your top dozen or so songs and then autograph them and sell them as a Juicey Peach product, just a thought. I also would like to give my best wishes to your father for a speedy and healthy recovery from his cancer. I will prey to God for him and for you. Keep up the amazing and inspiring work you do for us all and again Happy “26th” Birthday to you. Your friend and layol fan SGT Christopher Wanamaker Supply Sergeant for the US Army, FT. Lewis, WA.

HA profound! my little baby boy just turned one year old on the 25th…he was due on your bday but got impatient. i think he was afraid of me naming him ally or something hehe. i sent you a picture of him for the joy event….little boy in orange smiling his head off? well hope your day was awesome…sounds like it was. go see mamma mia, if you haven’t already. its an incredible movie. to me it just embodies life and energy and so much FUN! i defy anyone to watch it and hold on to a bad mood!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU. HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ALLISON. HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!

I hope you had a great birthday with all your friends and family. I sometimes wonder how I will feel when I get to a certain age. I will be turning 21 and I still don’t feel like I’m my age. I mean I act my age and all but I still like to act silly at times. I don’t think you should act a certain way when you reach a certain age. Sure when your an adult you should take care of your responsibilites and things like that but it doesn’t mean that can you can’t act stupid and have fun. I think age is just a number and it all depends on how you feel:).

I’m 17, i know pretty young. But sometimes i feel like i’m 17 in a 25 year olds body. All of the worries that we have in today’s time, i’m just finding it harder and harder to keep up! I wish everyone and thing would slow down. Embrace the beautiful world around us and connect on some level with it and who we want to be or become. I think that we’re all looking for that age where we will become totally happy and humble but i dont think it’s going to reach us at one at particular age. I think that every age is a memorible age and every age we reach, we learn much more about ourselves and about this life, world, and why ,maybe, that God put us here. When i say “us” i mean each one of us as individuals. because we are so individually existential. Each of us beautiful in our own ways. At every age.!!

    So happy birthday!
26 is still young so feel free to mess up and goof around!
    Warmly,
    Haley

    Happy Birthday Allison!
..I sincerely wish you more happiness & love!
26 isn’t too bad,eh? Funny, evrytime you add a number to your age you suddenly feel like “mature” and or “responsible” What does it really mean?? I’m 36 and I still run around in the rain, gets excited with parties, splash on puddles (ofcourse when no one’s watching! Don’t want to be mistaken for being a looney!) It’s not a crime to embrace life and celebrate it the way you want to…if it is a crime…then ARREST ME!!!
Take care, and I wish you more success!!!

    Hi Allison!
    Happy Birthday!

Wow, I haven’t written in here for such a long time! I missed this :D

I know what you’re talking about, I too have idealized those magical numbers of age pretty much my whole life. I even remember being four and wondering what it would be like being five simply because I would be a hand-full of years-old. Somehow it seemed important to me, go figure…

Anyway, I turned 20 recently and I was really upset because I wouldn’t be a teen anymore, can you believe it? Now, not much time having passed, I know it’s not the numbers that count, it’s your personality. The way you see yourself is directly related to the way you live your life.

Good luck to you in this new spin aroun the Sun! :D

Thank You, Allison. I had exactly the same feeling when i hit 26 a handful of months ago. I was like “Holy Shit I’m 26!!” and others where like “so??” but this whole midlife crisis thing was meant to happen at 40… Right then I was feeling so ripped off in a multitude of ways. First of all where had the year between 18 and 26 GONE? But also Hey I’m getting this whole maudlin experience of wondering where my life has gone at 26… I’m getting it 14 yrs to early so much for time to enjoy the folly and exuberance of youth. The universe is so rude sometimes! Oh well maybe its just another step to self realization, lets just hope the self that I “realize” is one that I like!

    Anyway ponderings aside,
Happy Birthday Allison and may your next 26 years be way better despite the wrinkles to come. Hey it gets us all… So you may as well enjoy the ride.

I so get what you’re talking about, (it’s never too late to reply though, right?) and when I was younger I always thought that I would just grow up and know what I want to do and where I want to be and even who I was going to marry by the age of 18 (very sheltered childhood).

But my 18th is just around the corner (well depends on your definition of ‘around the corner’ but in the grand scale of things, a few months isn’t that long), and I feel like I’m more lost than when I started, life always seems to get more complicated as we got older, not simpler and now that I’m close to my ‘magic number’ I am also so glad it doesn’t exist.

I’m just starting to realise (we rarely use ‘z’ in Australia) that this experience of growing up is one to enjoy and when my outlooks and ideals alter as my age climbs higher, I tend to smile at where I was. Does that make sense? I dunno.

Point is, that ultimately I’m so glad that there’s no number that I automatically straighten up and fly straight because I love the journey that I am on.

Thanks for helping me realise that
    ;)
