My Hopes
Posted by Allison Mack | Filed under Blog
In my life I hope to accomplish….
In my life I hope to accomplish a true understanding of the word compassion.
I hope to live that understanding in every moment of my life.
I hope to make beautiful art that inspires people to question, think, and push themselves in their relationships with the world around them.
I hope to build relationships with people that are based in authenticity and love.
I hope to inspire people to express themselves in the most joyful and genuine way possible.
I hope to be a woman who represents understanding and acceptance.
I hope to be instrumental in changing the way we relate to each other as human beings.
I hope to be an example of some one who takes responsibility for all things she effects in the world.
I hope to accomplish a life of joy!
I hope to laugh out loud.

I was going to go but I couldnt make it. How did it go? Looking forward to your directorial debut on Smallville and I hope nothing happens to Chloe, she’s my favorite character!

Wow, talk about a huge responsibility. It would practically be a full time job just figuring out all the things we effect. And that’s just for those of us without a large audience. For you Allison, I think it might be impossible to ever know of all the effects you have on people and their actions.
To kind of get an idea what I’m saying, think of the movie, “It’s a Wonderful Life.”

September 30th, 2008 at 9:34 amWell…..as for your hope to change to move and to inspire….I stop to take photos of things that are beautiful to me…a statue…the sun beaming through a tree…..a red leaf on the ground still covered in the dew from the morning shower…..birds……my friends favorite parts of themselves (eyes, legs, hair), I never took photos before….After being involved here on your website I decided to stop and take a true look at the things around me…You never notice the true beauty of it all until you see it through a lens. I decieded to give it a shot (no pun intended)…..I love it, I feel like I am creating something out of something that has already been created and making it my own….I don’t know if I am making any sense at all….but I just want you to know that I have you to thank.

September 30th, 2008 at 10:02 amHi Allison.
Regarding your statement above… about making beautiful art that inspires people to question, think, and push themselves in their relatioships with the world around them. and inspiring people to express themselves in the most joyful and genuine ways possible.
In my opinion you have already accomplished that by creating this awesome site, posting all of this blogs and taking a creative interest in your fan base.
and by continuing to encourage and inspire creative thinking with all of your blog’s and the Mack Events. Keep up the great work. and good luck on directing your episode of Smallville.
A human being is a part of the whole called by us universe, a part limited in time and space, He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something separated from the rest, a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty.

September 30th, 2008 at 11:13 amI’m inspired by the statement of your hopes, Allison. The way you conduct yourself in your blogs, the way you express yourself, is a sharing, and a very kind and caring one, of your energy, effort, vulnerability, and good will. In my own mind, those hopes pretty much compose a mission statement for your website, to create an atmosphere where people want to help each other become more capable and more hopeful.
However, on those days when you don’t feel like laughing out loud, when you feel more like crying, just be as compassionate with yourself as you hope to be with others. I hope there will be many people around you to offer the same support you hope to give. You’re accomplishing a whole lot of good, and you’ll do a lot more! –Tony

It’s been a while since I’ve been able to take time to respond to your blogs. Life has been busy and filled with long “to do” lists though I have been reading and pondering what you have written. I especially like today’s list of hopes. It’s refreshing to see the desires of someone who truly wants to make a positive impact on this world and the people in it. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: you are an inspiration! Thanks for who your are and for sharing so much of yourself with us. You’re a beautiful person.

September 30th, 2008 at 1:32 pmHello Allison!
Your words are so beautiful and true and complete, ones that many people will be able to associate with themselves. Also I think that’s a very important theme. Maybe especially for me at that moment. I’m thinking hard about what to do in my life now as I’ve just graduated my uni. The question for me now is “to be or not to be?” Yep, funny, it’s eternal question
So short one but so difficult…If to think some words about my hopes…
In my life I hope to be brave and decisive to follow my dreams.
I hope to do what I’ve always wanted to do despite of all the other people’s opinion that I might be crazy.
I hope to forward my own way of living my life not the way of other’s expectations.
I hope to be true, not to lose myself.
I hope to be kind and compassionate to people and never ever turn by chance my back to a person who needs my help.
I hope to be useful and “be that change that I want to see in the world”.
I hope to make fewer mistakes especially ones that affect other people.
I hope not to stop hoping and dreaming.
And I really hope to be happy… and never find myself to be all alone.Allison, I really hope that your hopes will come true! And I see that many of them are already achieved!
Take care and good luck in all your beginnings!!
p.s. thanks for your words! They are wise and made me to think… -

September 30th, 2008 at 1:39 pmI have a couple days off this week and, as is becoming the normal state of affairs, I have a hard time getting out of bed or leaving my room, let alone getting out of the house. This doesn’t surprise me. What does is that somehow, tomorrow morning, I will get up and leave home for eleven to thirteen hours to do a job I don’t care about anymore. I haven’t a clue how I manage to get up and out for a job when I can’t find a reason to get up for myself. I guess what I really need is a massive infusion of hope. Now back to the Media topic. I managed to go ask my wife if she needed some help with anything so that I could perhaps get a little motivation … but not overwhelmed. I found her on the couch watching Maury Povich. The topic today was teenaged girls who want money and will do anything to get it. It was all about violent, out of control girls ages 12 to 15 that believe that there is no right and wrong … and who want money and think nothing about prostituting themselves to get it. These girls were all very proud of what they do and consider it an expression of their rights and freedom. These girls were bold and unabashed. I wonder how many young women believe the same things and keep their opinions to themselves … while acting on their beliefs. It was something I certainly didn’t need to see. I tend to look into the face of every child I see and think of them as someone that could have been my child. That’s a reason I don’t like to go out much. I can have some hope if I think that the children who will be our future generation have discovered some strong moral values to cling to. The way to cling to those hopes is to not go out … and not watch Maury Povich!
So, I’m staying inside so that I can still hang on a little bit. And when I go out tomorrow, I will have specific work related problems to focus on. Math and geometry are much more orderly and rational things than human beliefs and behaviors.

Its bad enough that children in Africa have to prostitute themselves just to get food and every 1 in 4 Africans have HIV. As far as these kids on a talk show, Maury needs to throw them in his bootcamp. Your right about not watching stupid talk shows, what a waste of one hour of your life, you may as well as of smoked 8 cigarettes. September 30th, 2008 at 3:02 pmHigh Hopes…. Pink Floyd (The Division Bell)
Beyond the horizon of the place we lived when we were young
In a world of magnets and miracles
Our thoughts strayed constantly and without boundary
The ringing of the division bell had begun
Along the long road and on down the causeway
Do they still meet there by the cut
There was a ragged band that followed in our footsteps
Running before time took our dreams away
Leaving the myriad small creatures trying to tie us to the ground
To a life consumed by slow decayThe grass was greener
The light was brighter
With friends surrounded
The nights of wonderLooking beyond the embers of bridges glowing behind us
To a glimpse of how green it was on the other side
Steps taken forwards but sleepwalking back again
Dragged by the force of some inner tide
At a higher altitude with flag unfurled
We reached the dizzy heights of that dreamed of world****
Encumbered forever by desire and ambition
There’s a hunger still unsatisfied
Our weary eyes still stray to the horizon
Though down this road we’ve been so many timesThe grass was greener
The light was brighter
The taste was sweeter
The nights of wonder
With friends surrounded
The dawn mist glowing
The water flowing
The endless riverForever and ever

September 30th, 2008 at 4:17 pmPhil,
The Mothers of these girls were right there, but the girls knew that their parents couldn’t do anything if they wanted to do as they pleased. Hitting a kid is out. Social service agencies don’t help much. But Maury had a man back stage get the girls to agree to meet up with him later for sex. They all thought they could spot someone with a sexually transmitted disease. So the man came out and told them that he is HIV positive. That totally shocked the girls. Then a motivational speaker came in and did a good job talking sense into them before they took the girls off to spend time in a prison to see what they had to look forward to. The thing I really hate about those programs is 15 minutes of content spread out over 2 hours of repetitive previews and hype.
As to my depression, a psychiatrist charged me $145.00/hour for me to read my stories to him and concluded that I am not depressed and that all my problems would dissolve if I shined my shoes, dressed for success and kept working like a good boy. So, who can afford physical or mental health these days?

September 30th, 2008 at 4:22 pmCompassion.
Milan Kundera in “The Unbearable Lightness of Being” gets into the nitty gritty of this word, as it occurs in various languages. (This man’s intellect is almost frightening!) Surprisingly, compassion carries overtones of condescension. This is an interpretation that I resisted, though I have to admit the overtones are more clear in the linguistically related word “pity”.
I can understand how those who are pitied resenting our pity. Can compassion arouse the same resentment? Is there an inevitable relationship of superiority / inferiority when one person shows compassion for another?

October 1st, 2008 at 12:50 pmI hear you Dave, I work at the best Hospital in Mid-Michigan and its getting scary, people in this field dont even know if they will have insurance after they have retired. Retirees are not getting them now. Healthcare costs are getting ridiculous and always were, but they will unfortunately be going up due to the government cuts in medicare and medicaid. Hospitals now have to eat costs, if the patient stays longer then authorized, hence THE beautiful Woman has a child, and is booted out with baby in hand, in 3 days or less, I was told it used to be at least a week before mothers went home. Sorry to go off on this medical tangent, but maybe this will give me hope to fix the field. Sure would be a huge task, but not unsurmountable.
As to Maury, I believe I saw that show, or one similiar to it, bad kids, and sexually active kids. Makes Myspace all that more scarier with sickos out there, excluding present company of course. Your definately right about how they hype those shows, YAWN, thats why I dont watch them anymore. Reality tv? It doesnt even come close to whats really happening out there right now. I will give a pop out to extreme makeover, cause they built this house and are in town, in less then 106 hours, you should watch it, this is reality, when you see whats happened to this family. First 48 and thats all the reality I will watch. And of course Smallville! i try and look for the positive in everything, so maybe one plus from that Maury show, there will be a few kids contributing to the world, and if its still around, social security.LOL! -

but then it also makes me think of my best friend who has the word on a tattoo on her wrist. October 3rd, 2008 at 12:35 pmEverytime I stop by & check out your blog, your musings strike me as reminicent of some things I’ve pondered or have written about. Great minds think alike! ;-P But joking aside, I know that you’ve inspired others to take a step back and a take good look at themselves. Maybe you said something that makes them want to aspire to become better individuals and leave their stamp on the world. Come on, you have to know that you have.
For instance, I always think no one listens to what I have to say (I’m longwinded, as you can see). I was chatting with my best bud Phil and telling him how proud of him I was. Well he didn’t think he’d done much of anything to deserve it. But I just took him back a couple of years and reminded him of his struggle in college (he’s 29 and just graduated- we’re late bloomers). Then I went back a couple more years & reminded him of a job he’d hated that he couldn’t see himself ever escaping (but he did). Then I went back a couple more years and so on. Anywho, by the time I got to us being 17, he was so quiet. I thought he’d hung up or fallen asleep. The he said “Wow. Thank you, Chel. I really have come a long way haven’t I?” His response made me cry (I’m a sap for mushy stuff) And there you have it. I’d made someone think. And so have YOU. Thanks, Allison. ;-D

I was viewing your blogs and this entry in particular captivated me. I think these are superb hopes and endeavors that you want to experience in your life. I too focus on the supremacy of love and compassion. I believe it goes beyond the realms of human emotion, human thought, or general philosophies which contain fallacious arguments. I believe love is perfect and should be authentic in everyway in a spiritual sense.
Allison, I know by these “hopes” you have set for yourself only shows that you are a loving person and I hope you achieve what you set out to accomplish and that you will find the meaning of love and compassion in your own life and the people you will meet.
