Crisp by my friend Rob Gray

really?

Sometimes I look at life and I think “really?” I have these fantasies and ideas of what it is that I want to achieve and then I go after them. I pursue the fantasy. Example? OK, when I was 16 I told myself I wanted to be on a 1-hour series that would take me through the better part of my 20′s. I wanted something stable and consistent while I was young, working long hours and building up a profile I could use to spring board my life. Not so big that I lost my ability to make mistakes without the whole world noticing, but big enough I would feel a certain level of accomplishment.

Two years later, hello Smallville. Now I am here on the show I asked for and while it is nothing like the life I predicted, I love it.

So where am I gonna go next? And maybe this time I will actually pay attention to the ride and process.
That way I will really see my potency in my life as well as my capacity to build that which I would like.
New York City? A women’s movement? A film company comprised of compassionate, ethical humanitarians interested in moving themselves and the world through an evolution utilizing the ancient art of story telling? Building community? Having strong, honest, joyful and balanced relationships?

It all sounds wonderful to me.

I’d love to see you perform live, so I say shoot for Broadway! You love NYC, and there is so much life there that you can dabble in all those things you mention and discover so many more things to be involved with as well. I can’t imagine you’d be happy settling down and not diving face-first into a million new adventures :D

You’ve got the drive and the desire, so I say take the biggest bite out of life that you can. Life is too short to be ordinary!

Well, you have plenty of options to consider – try not to jump into anything feet first, take your time! I’m sure you can accomplish anything you set your mind to.

I guess where you are now is kind of comparable to where I was when I graduated college a few years ago and had so many ideas of what I wanted to do with my life, I couldn’t imagine picking just one thing. I’d spent my whole life up until then in education, and there were so many different things I wanted to do and see.

I bounced from one thing to another for a while until I found the place where I fit, and now I love what I do. Even so, I’m not sure I can see myself doing it forever – there’s still so many undiscovered paths I could go down in the future, and I’m looking forward to seeing where life takes me.

Whatever you choose to do, and wherever you choose to go – enjoy the journey!

Stability is a wonderful thing when we are able to achieve it, although it never comes with ease! We loose jobs and even friendships sometimes, but the good things about it all is that there is always another job if your will to search hard enough and there will always be a new friend who can appreciate who you are.

I don’t worry about stability anymore. I’m lucky enough to have the support of my family and friends, with which I know that I can achieve anything!

I hope all your dreams come true!

You can always tell what your suppose to do next. It’s always something that challenges you to stretch, takes you out of your comfort zone, and sometimes its not about the part you’ll play, but the things you’ll learn & who you learn them from. You never know who your going to meet, and you never what an impact they will make in your life.

Dreams fulfilled, dreams unfulfilled. This quote from the novel I am reading, “The Kindly Ones” by Jonathan Littell:

“For a long time we crawl on this earth like caterpillars, waiting for the splendid, diaphanous butterfly we bear within ourselves. And then time passes and the nymph stage never comes, we remain larvae — what do we do with such an appalling realization? Suicide, of course, is always an option. But to tell the truth suicide doesn’t tempt me much.

I read somthing today Allison, and it made me think of you. I am going to post it, with a hope that you read it, and gives you a bit of inspiration…

Grace and beauty adorn the natural world. Grace is not an all-powerful force, nor is it the essential or fundamental thing. By itself, it is form without content. Grace is moonlight on water, not the sunlight at noon. Yet grace brings artistic expression into the world, and enhances the texture of our relationships.

In the arts, grace arises out of adherence to form: the dancer becoming the form of the dance, the musician giving life to the form of a musical score, the painter becoming one with the brush and canvas. In relationships, grace is also aligned with form — with mastery of aesthetic and cultural values honed by time and honored by tradition. Through appreciation of graceful actions in human relationships, we apprehend the pure beauty of the ideal, of life raised above the mere struggle for survival.

Possession of grace, like the bearing of a beautiful gift to a wedding, can add stature to those in humble positions. Take care to lend grace and dignity to small matters, while giving the weight of deep and careful consideration to matters of greater consequence. Though it should not be confused with true substance, an artistic flair can take one far in this world.

But I don’t know one day I hope that I can do it, & have the support system I need by my side.

    Hi Allison,

Well, yes, we all have fantasies, dreams and plans and some of them even come true somehow, but no one actually knows where one goes next. Those decisions we make today build our tomorrow. It’s quite easy to make a difference between wrong or right, but to choose the better of two good chances or to opt for the better of two evils, that’s what’s deciding for our lives. So where will you go from here? Who knows… when one door closes, another one opens up. Whatever path you’re gonna take, be sure it’s the best one for you. I’m sure it is gonna be fantastic! :-)

…I believe that a faithful heart makes wishes resp. dreams come true. So believe in your dreams, Allison, and maybe another one will come true, too.

It’s funny how we sometimes imagine things in our lives and then SHAZAM..a few years later some parts of what we imagine have happened. As if by letting ourselves imagine the sort of life we like to hope for can create it in actual reality….well, some things any way.

I have no doubt that you will go on to create, shape and take part in all those projects you have listed, some may be successful in certain aspects, some will succeed in other forms, but each will, without question, be worthwhile.

It is so magical when our dreams we once had as kids or young adults actually happen.I am glad you have been having an amazing experiance on Smallville Allison.I can’t wait to see Chloe’s fate in tonight’s episode. It seems like once again you have set a vision of where you would like to see yourself. That is nice,I do the same all the time.NYC is an incredible city.Though I wonder if you would be as comfortable there. They have such a fast pace about everything they do,it’s like there is always something on the agenda for a New Yorker.I always kinda thought you would fit into a place where they operated a bit slower.A place where you can take the time to think and comtemplate stuff.New York is just a whole other place is all.A women’s movement, now that is very noble.I would love to see you actively participate in something of that nature.I don’t believe though that it should last longer than a movement.I mean that your an amazing actor.I would love to continue to see you in many more incredible roles.I guess I just hope you never leave behind acting, like some actors have for trying to be some outstanding humanitarian. It is very possible you could balance both.Allison whatever the future holds for you I’m sure it will be incredible.Good luck with all these aspirations you have.Oh btw you don’t always have to be in a moving role that inspires people to grow, for your fans to think your an amazing actress and person. You could do a simple role that is a funny person.I know that plenty of actors want to do that, but comedic or horror roles are pretty great too.And sometimes it just seems like some actors only focus on doing roles that will bring people to tears and move them somehow. That is not always the case in portraying a good role.Sorry if this sounded too critical, just my feelings.

They are Curiosity, Confidence, Courage, and Constancy and the greatest of these is Confidence. When you believe a thing, believe it all the way, implicitly and unquestionably.”

For instance, people who can’t stand nose blockages. These people have always been looked down upon, but I say, if your nose is blocked, you should have the right to pick-it.

Oh, and for anyone curious about how the job fair went, over 10,000 people showed up but not all of them dressed up or had nice pens like they were supposed to. Don’t get me wrong, there were a lot of really nice pens there … and it definately gave me a serious case of “pen envy.”

I guess some people got jobs … with Avon. That’s where you buy Avon products that you then try to sell door to door … but mainly keep for yourself and friends because anyone can be an Avon rep and get the products at drastically reduced prices so there is no need to buy them from anyone other than Avon. And, no, no one needs to worry about me coming to their door and offering to give them a make-over.

I truly admire you for following your dreams and actually doing something to accomplish them. So many times we want to do something but we feel we won’t make it and so we just don’t try. I think the beauty of following our dreams are the trials and the steps we take, the adventures we have on the way to fulfilling our dreams.
So congratulations on achieving YOUR dreams and I wish you the best in your future endeavors. :D

    Hi Allison
I am very happy that Chloe is still alive after the final. Tears in abundance, but not tears of healing.
Your introduction to the series Smallville that you have helped you grow as a person and actress is amazing.
During the next year, you prepare for the transition. I hope to see you on the big screen in different roles so you can show us all your talent. Use your talents as an actress is the best way to advance the cause that you hold dear. I just hope you never leave behind acting, like some actors have for trying to be some outstanding humanitarian.
It would be a great loss to the community. Your presence on the screen brings joy and hope.

    Claude.

A word of advice. Know your own financial status and be responsible for its upkeep. Your status may be good now but that is no guarentee for the future. That then can be a base for all your other achievements

I was going through old messages in my mobile phone and I found this forwarded text message that I got from one of my best friends last year.

I remembered how awesome it was and thought you might like it Allison.

    Here it is:

“A girl has strengths that amaze men. She can handle trouble and carry heavy burdens. She holds happiness, love and opinions. She smiles when she feels like screaming. She sings when she feels like crying, cries when she’s happy and laughs when she’s afraid. Her love is unconditional! There’s only one thing wrong with her, she sometimes forgets what she is worth…”

Come do theatre for a little while. In Seattle. Then head down to San Fran. Check out a few of the fringe things in L.A. A stop in Chicago, then D.C. Finally, storm the Great White Way in NYC. That would be a fun adventure and a great taste of the hotbeds of stage around the country.

I just love your enthusiasm. It is so infectious. :) I enjoyed your portrayal of Chloe (from Season 1 to present) and since we haven’t seen the remaining episodes, I can’t wait what will be in store for us. I’m trying not to read the spoilers. lolz.

Transitions are exciting and scary at the same time but we’ll get pass it since the process or the journey will be one learning curve and that for me is where the excitement usually begins. With your intuition for pursuing projects, I’m sure it will start to fall into place. Good luck! :D

If you think about it, you’re character on Smallville is the only one that was created out of thin air and has no relevance to the Superman time line and yet, you’ve outlasted all the others.
While they get killed off one by one or leave, you’re still a staple of the show just as much as ole Supes himself.
So you’ve definitely accomplished your goal. You’ve taken a character that didn’t even belong and made it a part of the show’s solid foundation. That’s no small accomplishment!

i was in hawaii a few years ago and we went on this one night cruise thing, one of those boats where you can eat and dance. I was 12 at the time, and i didnt want to dance. One of the workers there said to me “dance, have fun!” i said no thanks but he brought me up to dance with my family anyway. When we were done danceing and it was time to leave the cruise my mom went up and thanked the guy. She said ‘thank you for helping my daughter break free, shes not the type of person who would dance in public.’ then the waiter guy looked at me and said “If you believe it, and you want it bad enough and work hard enough for it, one day youll acomplish your dream, you can do anything if you put your mind to it.”

thats what you did. you wanted to be an actress and you got your wish.

Hey, there’s nothing wrong with having those ideas. In fact, they aren’t fantasies at all. When you devote yourself to something you want to achieve, you can accomplish it.

I mean, you could wake up the next morning and want to be an astronaut. And that’s totally alright. There’s nothing wrong with wanting to pursue what you wish to accomplish. Even if it seems impossible. =)

No one knows more about what you want to do in life than YOU do… given that, the best way to decide where to go next and what to do in life is to turn inward, explore your own desires and fantasies. Apply your knowledge of yourself and your experiences in life to form a consistent reality upon which you can base the foundation of your future.
