But if you play with food, it will expect you to play with it every day! In short, the food will get spoiled!

I’ll give it a try. But without a camera.

I screwed up. I thought the topic was “Playing with Food.” That’s what a day of physical labor does to me — fogs my mind.

    Seriously.
    I’m laughing my ass off!

    This sounds really fun Allison.
I have absolutely no idea what I’m gonna do for it, but it sounds really fun.
I’ll probably end up making a huge mess and getting in heaps of shit from mum.
Look at the things you make me do Ally. Lol!

    I can picture it now.
Mum’ll walk into the kitchen, see the mess I will have made and ask me what the hell’s going on.
Then I’ll tell her that Allison Mack made me do it and of course she’ll have no idea what the hell I’m talking about. I’ll end up standing there for like five minutes explaining about the blog and MackEvents coz she has to get to the bottom of everything…
…Come to think of it, maybe I should do this and have it cleaned up before she gets back…

But seriously if anyone actuallly ordered a bunch of big macs and organised them to say MACK that would be so funny.
If anyone’s got the guts to do that I totally dare them to.

    David,

The NY Times has started a series about art forgeries and aesthetics. Here’s a quote from the first article:
    >“A genius in that particular line.” But what “particular line” is this? If the painting was indeed a forgery, then must the painter be considered a genius? Incredulity followed by skepticism.<

I should have disclosed my sources. I took an image from popartmachine.com. This is what their site says:

“Pop Art Machine collects, curates and creates pop art. Our focus is painting and printing pop art using public image sources as inspiration. Here you will find over one million free source pictures and finished pop art posters & prints. Commissioned pop art prices on request.”

Here is what the original image looked like:

    daybow.com/image_files/poker_game_pop_art_SOURCE.jpg

Then I took a picture of Allison from Kryptonsite which I had to mirror and a picture of me from my files, cut our faces in, made the picture black and white (because my monitor doesn’t show colors correctly anymore and I didn’t want to end up with an orange banana and yellow carrot), matched skin tones, and sketched over two of the players to make them into the banana and carrot. So, I borrowed from a free source and haven’t a clue who the original artist was.

Hey David, I would actually prefer that you not try to get around having the links being held up in moderation. Please refrain from posting links that we cannot view first. It’s not something directed specifically at you, as all users who post links must have their comments looked at first. It’s a courtesy to ensure that it’s not spam, porn, and follows Allison’s values.

If a user tries to bypass that system, that post will be removed until the link has an opportunity to be resubmitted through the moderation queue and we can look at it.

In this case, I will leave your post because I have already looked at the image and approved it, but please don’t bypass anymore. There’s a very good reason that we do that and I hope that you will uphold the values of this site.

  22. David Hayes Says:

    Tabby,

I will comply. The only reason I do it is because people tend to not look back at previous blog entries — as if they are closed and no longer current. And if the comment is in the middle of an ongoing discussion and doesn’t get moderated until much later, it finally appears where few people would ever go back to look for it (which I understand because if it appeared at the bottom, being out of sequence might make it seem like it not fit the conversation or have it appear after someone else posts the same thing).

The same is true in the case of first time posters and people who have decided to slightly alter their screen name (or made a typo on their name). I see comments by people on the forum who are frustrated by trying to make a comment and getting it held up in moderation until long after the blog entry is active.

What it comes down to is, are there more people that you and Allison can trust who are willing to moderate here? Most people have busy lives and can’t really be expected to be chained to this board to review comments as they come in … and I am assuming that the work is voluntary so that makes it hard to be very demanding. But with the current situation where new blog entries are made [almost?] daily, having newbies’ comments and comments with links held up for days can discourage people from participating here.

I don’t have the answer, but I will refrain from posting less than complete links here.

And a link to go back further than the last few blog entries would be helpful. Maybe it’s there but I can’t see it.

On a side note, I was very surprised when someone asked on the forum about the guidelines for fan fictions and got the go ahead from a moderator to post a fiction containing a sexual encounter between Clark and Chloe. So who moderates the moderators?

Hmmm. Since “Popular Art” got shortened to “Pop Art” and “Optical Effect Art” got shortened to “Op Art,” will “Food Art” soon be referred to as “F’Art?” Probably only after the fact and if it is very high in fiber.

    Kyle,

I liked your idea so I submitted an image for you. That saved you about $100.00 in Big Macs. But I forgot to ask … did you want fries with that?

  26. Tabby Says:
    May 30th, 2009 at 9:57 am

    Hey David,

If you feel that a fiction violates the terms of the site, please do not hesitate to contact me or report the post. If you feel a moderator made a mistake (which we all do at times), please speak to that person. If that person doesn’t respond, speak to me. I will ensure an investigation and see what steps we can take to resolve such a situation.

I would actually prefer to moderate all comments that come in, but I set a system of trust up so that if a poster gives a real email address and typically posts value-building content, that person doesn’t need to be moderated. If a person gives a false email address, posts links that may lead to inappropriate material, or other triggers, they will need to be moderated.

That is the consequence to wanting to post that type of content or not giving legitimate email addresses, etc.

99% of legitimate (non spam) posts are moderated within 72 hours of the post. Most of the time within 24. I think we do a good job, personally.

I will see what I can do about getting a pagination going for the posts! We actually have a new design coming out in the next month or so that will take care of a lot of the complaints of this one.

With that being said, more food art!

I’m just glad Allison’s last name isn’t “Quarter-Pounder” or I would have needed to find a longer table!

And Thanks Tabby for your response. We wouldn’t want you to moderate everything if it costs you the time you need to write your screen play or have a life.

That artist certainly didn’t loaf around! And the results weren’t at all crumby!

I’ll link below to another You Tube video where the artist does a portrait with ketchup and fries.

Also, search out “Leaning Tower of Pizza” for photos of another food challenge.
