And so the beauty of exploring love continues!

Ornella Santilli Says:
May 27th, 2009 at 2:47 pm edit

Let me not to the marriage of true minds

Admit impediments. Love is not love

Which alters when it alteration finds,

Or bends with the remover to remove:

O no! it is an ever-fixed mark

That looks on tempests and is never shaken;

It is the star to every wandering bark,

Whose worth’s unknown, although his height be taken.

Love’s not Time’s fool, though rosy lips and cheeks

Within his bending sickle’s compass come:

Love alters not with his brief hours and weeks,

But bears it out even to the edge of doom.

If this be error and upon me proved,

I never writ, nor no man ever loved.

William Shakespeare

And so the beauty of exploring love continues!

I hate to harp, but had to highlight this amazing Shakespeare quote. Funny thing, this was read at my parents wedding! Good taste Ornella.

It’s not harping when you provide a beautiful quote like that. I can see why it would be read at a wedding. It’s a great expression of the commitment and love each person has for the other.

I like the way Shakespeare’s words in this poem echoes so deeply. Humph, it’s been some years since I’ve read him regularly. I had a book of his collected works, but I gave it to one of my cousins because she loves Shakespeare, and I’ve never took the time to get back into him.

It seems such a cliche to say it but Shakespeare truly is universal. The man (or committee, depending on what you want to believe) wrote in the simplest of terms and truths and yet is sound profound in just that.

So many want to be clever. He was just honest. And this speaks so honestly on love.

There is a song that was orginally song by Jon Bon Jovi and I just recently heard it again now being song by Hinder. It is called “Bed Of Roses”… It’s such a wonderful love song.

Love is a beautiful emotion shared between two people. It’s like your hearts are in sink, and you can feel them breathing within your soul. I couldn’t imagine another feeling that could make you happing and scared and excited all at one time. I wrote a small part of the song below that I love the most…

    BED OF ROSES…

With an ironclad fist I wake up
    and french kiss the morning
    While some marching band keeps
its on beat in my head
    While we’re talking
About all of the things I long to believe
    about love and truth
    what you mean to me
Anmd the truth is baby you’re all that I need

I wanna lay you down in a bed of roses
for tonight I sleep on a bed of nails
Oh, I wanna be just as close as the Holy Ghost is
and lay you down on a bed of roses

    We’ll I’m so far away
step that I takes on my way home
A king’s ransom in dimes give each night
    to through this payphone
Still I run out of time
Or it’s hard to get through
Till the bird on the wire flies me back to you
I just close my eyes and whisper,
    baby blind love is true

I wanna lay you down in a bed of roses
For tonight I sleep on nails
Oh, I wanna be just as close as the Holy Ghost is
And lay you down on a bed of roses

Well thats just the middle part of the song that I love best… Hope you like it too…

    “Love Stinks”

    He loves her
But she loves this guy right here
    And he loves somebody else
    You just can’t win
    And so it goes
    Till the day you die
    This thing they call love
    It’s gonna make you cry
    I’ve had the blues
    The reds and the pinks
    One thing for sure

Two by two and side by side
Love’s gonna find you yes it is
    You just can’t hide
    You’ll hear it call
    Your heart will fall
    Then love will fly
    It’s gonna soar
I don’t care for any casanova thing
    All I can say is
    Love stinks

Then there was this famous tragic love affair:

Abelard and Heloise were prominent intellectuals of twelfth century France. Abelard, of noble birth and eighteen years the senior of Heloise, was a prominent lecturer in philosophy. Abelard was an adventurous thinker, and was constantly at odds with the Church. On several occasions he was forced to recant and burn his writings.
Heloise was a strong-willed and gifted woman who was fluent in Latin, Greek and Hebrew, and came from a lower social standing than Abelard. At age 19, and living under her uncle Fulbert’s roof, Heloise fell in love with Abelard, who she was studying under. Not only did they have a clandestine affair of a sexual nature, they had a child, Astrolabe, out of wedlock. Discovered by Fulbert (who was a Church official), Abelard was assaulted by a hired thug and mutilated, and Heloise entered a convent. Abelard was exiled to Brittany, where he lived as monk. Eventually Heloise became abbess of the Oratory of the Paraclete, an abbey which Abelard had founded.
It was at this time that they exchanged their famous letters. The letters, originally written in Latin, are passionate both in the remembrance of lost love, and the attempt to reconcile that love with their respective monastic duty to remain chaste. The tension between these two poles generates a huge amount of emotional electricity.

    To Peter Abelard:
I have your picture in my room. I never pass by it without stopping to look at it; and yet when you were present with me, I scare ever cast my eyes upon it. If a picture which is but a mute representation of an object can give such pleasure, what cannot letters inspire? They have souls, they can speak, they have in them all that force which expresses the transport of the heart; they have all the fire of our passions….

    Just some poems.

    Love is Reckless by Rumi

    Love is reckless; not reason.
    Reason seeks a profit.
    Love comes on strong,
    consuming herself, unabashed.

Yet, in the midst of suffering,
    Love proceeds like a millstone,
    hard surfaced and straightforward.

    Having died of self-interest,
she risks everything and asks for nothing.
Love gambles away every gift God bestows.

    Without cause God gave us Being;
without cause, give it back again.
    …………………………………
He Wishes for the Cloths of Heaven by Yeats

HAD I the heavens’ embroidered cloths,
Enwrought with golden and silver light,

The blue and the dim and the dark cloths
Of night and light and the half-light,
I would spread the cloths under your feet:
    But I, being poor, have only my dreams;
    I have spread my dreams under your feet;
Tread softly because you tread on my dreams
    …………………………..

Since Aziza shared something from Rumi, I can’t help but offer one of my favorite mystic love poems from Hafiz:

    The Woman I Love

Because the Woman I love lives inside of you,
I lean as close to your body with my words as I can–
and I think of you all the time,
    dear pilgrim.

Because the One I love goes with you wherever you go,
    Hafiz will always be
    near.

If you sat before me, wayfarer, with your aura bright from your many charms,

my lips could resist rushing to you, but my eyes, my eyes
can no longer hide the wondrous fact of who
    you really are.

The Beautiful One who I adore
has pitched His royal tent inside of you,

so I will always lean my heart
    as close to your soul
    as I can.

I let J. Geils say that because I wasn’t up to doing a counterpoint. I think true love is probably one of the few things that doesn’t stink as it gets older … but the question is, “What is true love?” A lot of what is labelled as love causes tremendous grief in the world. To be more specific — selfish desire, possessiveness, jealousy, lust ….

because the bases are deep and without any desires to change the other. The freindship is a long term thing build slowly without great passion.

Shakespeare wrote art and love. I hope his works will last to the end of time. Well then, some none Shakespearean art by Nena:

You look at me and I go with you
    And it’s forever, this moment
The sun is shining and life is laughing
So my heart opens up and I want to give it to you
I want to carry you, I want to love you
    For love has remained
    Without asking, it’s simply there
Can’t escape, that’s obvious to me

    Good night, my beau
And I’d still like to thank you
What you did, what you said
It certainly wasn’t easy for you
You think of me in completely love
And what you see just goes on
You are brave, you are smart
And I’ll be always there for you
    That I know for sure

You and I, we are like children
Who love each other the way they are
Who don’t lie and don’t ask
When there’s nothing to ask for
We are two and we are as one
    And we see things clearly
And if one of us has to go
We are still there for good

    Love doesn’t want
    Love doesn’t fight
    Love doesn’t become
    Love is
    Love doesn’t seek
    Love doesn’t ask
    Love feels like you are

    Love isn’t to be
    Love doesn’t fight
    Love doesn’t become
    Love is
    Love doesn’t seek
    Love doesn’t ask
    Love is like you are

Love is like you are, like you are.

I have a doubt: what is the exact meaning of “harp” in this context?

    - I could explain it, but since English is obviously a foreign language for you, I’m not sure whether you’d understand it. Ornella Santilli sounds Italian to me. So this is the Italian translation:

“I hate to harp” means “(io) odio battere su qualcosa / un tema”.

    Silvia:
I’m Argentinian and I’m an English teacher. I know what is the meaning of “Harp” but I do not know what Allison meant!!! Probably she used it as a slang.

Could you explain me in English, please?

Thanks fortranslating it to Italian but I do not speak it! I speak English and Spanish!! Ha,ha!!!

    Thank you, Silvia.

I am not sure but it means “to repeat something”?

Well, I think Allison doesn’t like to pick things up and talk about them over and over again. So I understood it as “to keep going on about something” resp. “to dwell upon a subject”. In Spanish it means “(yo) odio a insistir en ello.”

I hope you understand Allison’s sentence now.
